FIRST RESPONDERS RESPONDER STORY

CARLA HENRY – OAKLEY VALE / CORBY Carla joined North Northants First Responders approximately a year ago, Carla is a mum to two

children and works full time as a year years practitioner in a Pre-School.

Her husband works withing the emergency services, and other family members also work on the front line, so by joining this scheme it was nice to become a part of the 999 family.

She qualified as a Level 2 responder in June 2020 and since then has logged on whenever she can, she has been exposed to a Varity of different medical problems to put her newly acquired

skills into practice. She found out about the CFR Scheme after seeing the scheme car in the community and doing

some further research into what the role entailed.

Carla has recently been mentoring newly qualified responders and has also completed her level 3 Responder course.

Carla became a CFR because of her love for helping people which started when she was a young girl. At age 5 she received her first Doctors kit from her Nan, who at the time was a theatre

nurse.

Unfortunately, when she was 6, her Nan suffered a Cardiac Arrest on Christmas Day, whilst she was there with her at her house, she sadly passed away.

Since this occasion it has become Carla’s mission to help people and follow in her Nans footsteps in the medical field.

She qualified as a mental health nurse in 2006, but then took a step back to concentrate on family. Being a CFR means that I am able to help people in the community before the Ambulance

arrives.
