Message from the Board of Trustees
It is hard to believe that Christmas is almost here! In the coming week, Santa will visit many of the classes. According to the statistics, over 400 riders with additional needs
rode at Sandyflat between August 2015 and June 2016. This is amazing and indicates the wonderful band of Staff and Volunteers who help to keep the wheels of the Glasgow
Group turning. In October, we were sorry to say goodbye to Stephen MacKay who had been a senior member of the yard staff for 11years. We wish him well and welcome
Stephanie Shaw in his place; we hope she will be happy in her new position as a member of the team in the yard.
Whatever your involvement at Sandyflat, whether it is as a member of staff in the yard or in the office, as a volunteer or as a supporter, we thank you for your commitment to our
riders and wish you all a happy festive season and offer you our best wishes for 2017.
TERM DATES: This term ends on Saturday 17th December 2016. Classes resume on Monday 16th January 2017.
Annual Fun Day 2016 This year our Annual Fun Day took place on Saturday 17th September. Being slightly earlier in the year, we
were fortunate to take advantage of the beautiful dry spell. Having such great weather increased the turnout for our hotly anticipated event and it was fantastic to welcome so many visitors from the local
community. Visitors enjoyed the pony rides, bouncy castle, rodeo bull, raffle, stalls and of course the ever-popular soup and home-baking!
Thank you to everyone who donated prizes, home baked and of course to all our volunteers who gave up their Saturday to help on the day. It is only with your support that we achieved a record amount.
We are delighted to announce that our profit was a record £2,685.47
Congratulations to our riders who had made the most
progress in the last year.
We would like to wish Rhys a speedy recovery.
We miss you and hope to see you back on Timmy soon x
The Showing Show was a successful
event run by Lynne and her staff in
August. The riders considered it to be a
“Great Day” and financially the
Glasgow Group benefitted. A profit
of £718.86 was made
Well done to
everyone that braved the weather
and our Congratulations to
Marnie, riding William, ending the
day as Supreme Champion!!
Every year theses cups are presented to the riders in the different age groups.
The McClements Rose Bowl was presented to Rachel McColgan (under 18).
Mrs Sheila McCalman presented the St Mungo Cup for Claudia Boyd and Gordon McConnechie received the Anderson Millhouse Trophy

We are extremely grateful to the Glasgow BSC Charitable Fund for their support. During the summer break they rallied their co-
workers and set about the ardious task of painting all our 20 stableblocks, pens, tack room & feed room.
In addition they donated funds which enabled us to purchase much needed supplies for our horses and yard…THANK YOU!!
Thanks also to Scottish Enterprise, Corporate Volunteering Group who spent
the day helping Gary clear our River Kelvin Trail. Their spirits did not dampen
even in the rain! Thank you - your support is much appreciated.

What do you like most about coming to
your riding class??
Paul: “I Like learning about the horse and about the bits that go on him. I like riding Timmy and trotting too”!
Jamie: “I don’t like horse-riding…I LOVE horse-riding…It’s the Best”!
Lucy: “I like playing games in the
indoor school with my horse”.
Marissa: “I like to ride on Smudge and I like to give him cuddles”.
Matthew: “I like walking outside
amongst the trees”.
Henry Rankin, who after a diagnosis of Vascular Dementia, put together a bucket list of 10 things he wanted to do.
The last on his list was to ride a horse and we contacted Henry via Alzheimer Scotland to make that come true. In June 2016, Henry came with his wife and
daughters to Sandyflat and rode Precious and he was absolutely thrilled by the experience.
