In today’s projectized world of large scale change, the BA and PM’s ability to display resilience is a critical element of success. Successful Bas and PMs channel the energy of change to assist their teams and their organizations in achieving better project outcomes. The key for us is to develop our ability to be strategic and not reactive!Learning Objectives• Learn a practical process for being resilient in the projectized world• Discuss and experience a set of five “change muscles” that will

Crucial Conversations: 5 Critical Concepts To Help You Effectively Discuss What Really Matters Most Bob Prentiss, Bob The BA

Let’s face it, there are just some conversations that you don’t want to have. There are some people you simply don’t want to talk to. What happens when we don’t? Everyone loses. It is perfectly natural for us to avoid difficult conversations. We fear rejection, retaliation, emotional outbreaks, the dismissal of our ideas, and those incredibly awkward moments. However, many conversations need to be had. The solution is not going to work and one person is the roadblock, the performance of an individual is lower than expected, an individual’s behavior is impeding team productivity, someone is dominating too much, and the list goes on and on. If we want healthy, productive teams and projects, crucial conversations must be had.

Its time to stop ranting, raving, complaining and avoiding, and to start having meaningful, persuasive conversations that make an impact. Are you ready for less stress and more successful conversations? Do you want behaviors to change? Do you want ideas to be heard? Then its time we have a crucial conversation about crucial conversations. This highly interactive and dynamic keynote will take you on a journey to discover the critical concepts of crucial conversations that will help you effectively discuss what matters most.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONSPROJECT MANAGEMENT BUSINESS ANALYSISSHARED SKILLS

Navigating the Chaos of Project ManagementVincent Mirabelli, Global Project Synergy Group

It’s futile to deny it…politics are all around us, filling every spare space in our worlds. And the world of our workplaces is no exception. Denying this can bring undue personal pain, affecting your personal and professional lives. Bottom line, ignoring the existence of the internal and external politics surrounding your project can be hazardous to your success. In “Navigating the Chaos of Project Management”, participants will learn how to navigate, manage and engage all stakeholders for optimal project success, while avoiding the chaos that all too often ensues. You’ll also learn how to evaluate and enhance your leadership abilities, and will gather the necessary tools and techniques to help you manage project politics within your organization, including how to engage and manage stakeholders, exploiting conflict, using negotiation to achieve your goals, all through the lens of understanding what truly drives stakeholders to be political animals.

Badass Business Analysis Techniques!Bob Prentiss, Bob the BA

Badass Business Analysis techniques? You might be thinking “Cool! What are those?” or “I know lots of techniques already so this session probably is not going to be of any help”. Before you make any decisions, let me ask you the following question: Do any of the statements below ring true regarding a meeting you either recently attended or facilitated? • The attendees during the brainstorming session were all zombified by the approach and the results. • The icebreaker was frozen solid and “Let It Go” was all anyone could say. • The decision model failed to make a decision and everyone muttered “thanks for wasting my time” as they left the room. • The process modeling session took so long someone literally fell asleep at the table. If you have seen or experienced any of those scenarios, you might want to rethink the techniques you are using. Businesses today are changing rapidly. The same old techniques that you have been using may not be living up to the agility and speed required to succeed in this new dynamic marketplace of change. Are you ready to learn and practice some new and very helpful techniques you have never heard of before? Are you ready to expand your frame of reference and re-look at how you facilitate? It does not take a Badass Business Analyst to learn these new techniques, but if you are willing, you are well on your way to becoming a Badass Business Analyst!

Getting Business Change to StickSasha Aganova & Roger Burlton, Process Renewal Group

We have all experienced situations whereby the business has to change but the initiative struggles to be effective and once the solution goes live true angst exists in the people that have to live with the result. We have found that often these changes are structurally well-defined but the change agents have not applied the same degree of rigor to human behaviors that they did to the technical / procedural aspects. In most cases this aspect of the transformation is poorly understood and haphazardly done if at all. This workshop will deal with the thorny problem of getting real change to happen without the extreme pain that often comes with the challenge. Using a business change scenario in a series of working sessions, you will apply a simple set of techniques integrated with the initiative’s activities to connect the so-called ‘soft’ side with the ‘hard’ side. We will cover some aspects of classic ‘change management’ but reach beyond to include motivation, culture change and behavioral sustainability showing how these must be designed in from the start not added on at the end.

Audience: PM | BA Skill Level: Intermediate

Agile Requirements: Creative, Collaborative and Colorful Discovery Mary Gorman, EBG Consulting, Inc.

This one-day experiential workshop shows how to reveal the full spectrum of options for delivering your product’s anticipated value—quickly, succinctly, and just-in-time. Experience collaborative techniques for slicing features and stories into well-understood, valuable chunks. EBG’s Mary Gorman demonstrates how to engage structured conversations to explore, evaluate, and confirm agile requirements using clear, unambiguous acceptance criteria. Practical, integrated exercises demonstrate ways to unleash agile team creativity, elicit holistic requirements, and obtain a shared understanding of product requirements. Leave with essential agile requirements practices for use at any level of agile product planning: team, program, or portfolio. As an added bonus, you receive a copy of Discover to Deliver: Agile Product Planning and Analysis to use—and keep—as a useful guide for continuing to discover and deliver value in your day-to-day work.
