Tai Chi AdvancedTai Chi Chuan and Ch’l Kung are ancient Chinese mind-body practices. What is Ch’i? The Chinese word Ch’l means air, energy or life. Everyone possess Ch’l and we can develop it within our bodies through learning and practicing Tai Chi movements. In class, students learn a comprehensive system that opens and strengthens the whole body in a gentle manner. Ultimately, the practice integrates body, mind, and spirit causing a “ripple: effect that not only helps the overall health of the individual, but spreads out into the well-being of the family and the greater community. Continuing students must have already completed one session or be an experienced practitioner of the art.

PickleballYes, PICKLEBALL – the fun game with the funny name, is one of the fastest-growing sports in the nation! Created in the backyard of Washington Congressman Joel Pritchard in 1965, it is a combination of badminton, tennis and table tennis, and is enjoyed by all age groups. Using a badminton-sized court, tennis-height net, table tennis-type paddle, and a baseball-sized whiffle ball, usually played by doubles, this game has few rules and is far less strenuous than tennis. It is easy to learn and provides plenty of exercise and eye-hand coordination; a game of strategy for both men and women, you don’t have to be tall and powerful. Want to watch a video? Go to www.USAPA.org, click on link “What is Pickleball?” under Training and Court Info link or sit in on any Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday open court session to see if you’d like it. Location: Range Line School Gym

Ozaukee County 2020 Power of Attorney EventDespite the challenges of 2020, the Ozaukee County Elder/Adults at Risk Interdisciplinary Team hope to go forward with our Annual Power of Attorney Event, though with a new approach. We expect to offer residents a virtual opportunity to learn about the Power of Attorney Health Care Document and the steps to complete this. Completing a Power of Attorney allows a person to choose the individual he/she would want to make medical decisions in the event that the person is unable to make them for him/herself. In Wisconsin, spouses and children do not automatically have this authority. Completed Power of Attorney documents can help families avoid costly and time-consuming court proceedings. If you are interested in participating in this event, please contact Ozaukee County Human Services at 262-284-8200 to provide your name and email address or phone number. This event is hosted by the Ozaukee Elder/Adults at Risk Interdisciplinary Team, with support from members of the Ozaukee Bar Association.

Here is a delightful new version of Kenneth Grahame’s always popular The Wind in the Willows. Toad of Toad Hall is an eccentric but likable chap given to ’crazes.’ His latest craze involves motorcars. Unfortunately, he smashes them up as fast as he gets them. He even steals one for a wild ride over the countryside. Naturally, this gets him into a great deal of trouble. His dear friends Badger, Rat, and Mole do their best to help, but their efforts aren’t enough, and Toad ends up in prison . . . after an uproarious courtroom scene. His imprisonment couldn’t please his enemies, the weasels, more. They quickly take over Toad Hall and trash the place. Meanwhile, the jailer’s daughter, Polly, thinks Toad is an exceptional fellow and helps him escape dressed as a washerwoman! On his way back home, he has a wild adventure with a barge owner who is horrified to discover the washerwoman is actually a toad. When Toad finally meets up with his friends again, they devise a clever scheme to recapture Toad Hall from the weasels in another wild scene. This enchanting adaptation has been written specifically for simple production, with an extremely flexible cast and many wonderful, small roles. Once you meet mad Mr. Toad, you and your audience will never forget him.The rehearsal process will include theater games, acting tips, lots of acting, and of course a chance to be on stage for the final production! WEDNESDAY CASTThis special adaptation of the nine-time Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, Fiddler on the Roof JR., follows Tevye the milkman as he tries to protect his daughters and his way of life from a changing world. Created by Broadway legends Jerome Robbins, Harold Prince, Jerry Bock, Sheldon Harnick, and Joseph Stein, Fiddler on the Roof JR. tackles the universal theme of tradition in ways that reach across barriers of race, class, nationality, and religion. Set in the little village of Anatevka, the story centers on Tevye, a poor dairyman, and his five daughters. With the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to marry off his daughters and instill in them a sense of tradition in the face of growing anti-Semitism in Czarist Russia. Fiddler on the Roof JR. is an excellent introduction to the world of musical theatre. Young performers will love its humor, warmth, and honesty.
The rehearsal process will include theater games, lots of acting, singing, and of course a chance to be on stage for the final production! You will make lots of new drama buddies while working together as a team. This musical is for actors who are first-timers and for those who have had some experience on stage. This year we are offering TWO MUSICAL WORKSHOPS theatre students may wish to participate in before auditions. This will help with learning the music, movement, and acting! This special adaptation of the nine-time Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, Fiddler on the Roof JR., follows Tevye the milkman as he tries to protect his daughters and his way of life from a changing world.
All participants will receive a T-shirt. REGISTRATION FOR THIS PROGRAM OPENS ON WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 11 AT 9:00 am ONLINE ONLY. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW YOUR USERNAME AND PASSWORD BEFORE THIS DAY. These transactions must be completed in person because you will receive a receipt to take to your first session (proof of registration)
Registration Information Continued
CANCELLED PROGRAM
If a program is cancelled due to low registration, a full refund of the fee will be given. All participants will be contacted immediately when this occurs. There may be times classes need to be cancelled due to weather, facility scheduling, etc. At times these classes may not be made-up. There will not be a refund given for individual class cancellations due to weather. To find out if a class has been cancelled due to inclement weather or other reasons, please call 262-238-7535.
SATISFACTION GUARANTEED
M-T Recreation Department is committed to providing high quality programs and services. If you are not satisfied with a class, program, or service offered by our department, let us know your concerns as soon as possible. You will receive a pro-rated letter of credit that may be applied to another M-T Recreation Department program. The credit will be good for two years from the date issued.
HOSPITAL/MEDICAL INSURANCE
The Department does not provide hospital/medical insurance coverage for people participating in sponsored activities. Furthermore, the school district does not provide hospital/medical coverage for Department sponsored activities. Participants are encouraged to obtain their own insurance coverage prior to and for the duration of the activity they take part in from their own insurance agent.
PHOTOGRAPHY PROCEDURES
The M-T Recreation Department uses pictures of participants in bulletins and displays to inform others of our recreation opportunities. Those photographed will not be identified by name. If you do not want your child’s or any family member’s picture used for M-T Recreation publications, please inform the Recreation Office.
PROGRAM LEADERSHIP
Qualified, competent LEADERSHIP is the key to a successful program. The Recreation Department will attempt to employ such leaders in all its programs. If you feel that you are qualified to lead, instruct, or officiate a specific program, contact the Recreation Office to obtain the proper application form.
RESIDENT DEFINITION
Residents are defined as those persons who live in the Mequon-Thiensville School District. Non-resident fees apply to those who live outside the Mequon-Thiensville School District.
REFUND POLICY
Full Refunds: Full refunds will not be issued unless a program is cancelled by the M-T Recreation Department.
Partial refunds: Partial refunds are made possible if requested in writing seven days prior to the start of the program. All refunds are subject to a $10 service fee. The written refund request must include the name of the participant, the course number and the reason for the refund. A full refund will not be issued unless a class has been cancelled by the Recreation Department. Please allow 2-4 weeks for a refund.
RECREATION OFFICE LOCATION
The Recreation Office is located on the first floor of the Range Line School building. Office hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Telephone: 238-7535.
