Key Milestones in the Digital Enterprise Journey

Session Type: Morning Keynote (Open Door)

Speakers:

Nick Lippis Co-Founder & Co-Chairman, ONUG

Chris Moretti VP, Global Engineering &

Infrastructure Services, Cigna

ONUG Community members are focused on building hybrid multi-cloud infrastructure as on-and-off ramps between public and private clouds. In the digital era, vendor value is determined by how they complement and partner with cloud providers to bridge the gap between on- and off-prem solutions.

But paradoxically, the sad truth is that very few vendors and IT business leaders really know what a hybrid multi-cloud infrastructure is. At ONUG Spring 2019 in Dallas, we started a journey together to collaboratively construct reference solutions that start to answer the question of how IT business leaders can reliably build and run hybrid multi-cloud infrastructure to support their digital transformation initiatives.

At ONUG Fall, the community takes a giant step with ONUG reference solu-tions to guide their digital transforma-tion journey. Join Nick Lippis, ONUG Co-Founder, as he provides an update on the ONUG Journey and Chris Moretti, VP, Global Engineering & Infrastructure services

at Cigna, as he provides insight into how Cigna’s digital journey is comple-mented by being ONUG members.

The Great Debate: Connecting Cloud-based Security Tools with On-Premise for Hybrid Cloud — Will We Ever Get There?

Session Type: Panel Discussion

Moderator:

Ernest Lefner SM-FSO Digital Advisory, Ernst & Young, Co-Founder & Co-Chairman, ONUG

Speakers:

Lane Patterson Co-Founder, Investor

and Board Member, EdgeUno, Inc.

Harry Roberts Executive Director Ernst & Young

Each public cloud provider provides its own security events, yet on-premise, a different set of tools are used. Each cloud provider has security embedded into its cloud offering, yet getting those events to an enterprise event system is a custom solution for each cloud provider to which you connect. It would be great to have a standard framework/policy-based solution that can be deployed into on-prem and each cloud provider. This would allow businesses the benefit of a consolidated security events dashboard and resolution path. But will we ever get there?

Cloud providers’ cadence is much faster than on-prem cloud providers, making product development out of phase between the two. This competition is healthy and provides a better, albeit more difficult, approach to cloud security integration with enterprise event systems. During this ONUG Great Debate, we argue the value of consolidated/integrated vs. separate cloud security solutions.

Session Type: Open Discussion ONUG Working Group Track

Moderator:

Stephen Collins ONUG Working Group CTO

Speakers:

Bob Friday VP/CTO,

Juniper

Dave Mariani Co-founder, Atscale

The ONUG Community is eager to tackle the application of AI technology to streamline operational workflows and automate critical operations in hybrid multi-cloud environments where scale and complexity are outstripping the capabilities of human operators to keep pace in real time.

The new AIOps for Hybrid Multi- Cloud Working Group will concentrate on the challenges of applying AI techniques to generate actionable insights by using machine learning to analyze and correlate data that is sourced from operational silos across multiple operational domains and layers — application, infrastructure and network.

The Working Group is targeting the hard problem of determining root cause analysis for events where it is impractical, if not impossible, to aggregate all data into a central data repository to apply machine learning and AI algorithms. In this session, the Working Group Co-Chairs and

panelists will describe a promising approach that solves this problem by accessing critical monitoring data sourced from multiple silos via a virtualization layer that provides a common data model and a set of APIs for accessing normalized data records.

NEW Orchestration & Automation ONUG Working Group

Session Type: Panel Discussion (Open Door) ONUG Working Group Track

Moderator:

Stephen Collins ONUG Working Group CTO

Speakers:

Sal Rannazzisi Associate Director, Merck

Brian Silverman Sr. Architect, Network and Cloud, McKesson Technology

Use case voting conducted at ONUG Spring 2019 in Dallas showed a strong concern in the ONUG Community for scaling orchestration and automation in complex hybrid multi-cloud environments in which automation tools must span different controllers operating in multiple domains and layers within a domain.

There is no shortage of automation tools and operators today are using many of them for streamlining workflows by automating tedious and error-prone configuration and control tasks.

This session will focus on addressing a critical challenge that is complicating multi-cloud orchestration: the industry lacks a common architectural frame-work for orchestration and automation in hybrid multi-cloud environments that will enable enterprises to fully realize the benefits of infrastructure as code — agility, accelerated service delivery and reduced OPEX.

The ONUG Community has aggregat-ed the top five challenges of building hybrid multi-cloud infrastructure. We shared these challenges with Amazon AWS, Microsoft AZURE, IBM Cloud

Connect and Google Cloud Services, and offered each of them the opportu-nity to address the ONUG Community with their practical approach/solution. In this town hall meeting, the ONUG Board invited the above cloud pro-viders to address the community’s biggest challenges. In an ONUG exclu-sive, each cloud provider is offered 15 minutes to address these challenges.

Sesh Iyer, Senior Partner Technology, Media & Telecommunications and Energy Practices of Boston Con-sulting Group, will moderate a town hall meeting discussion. Sesh will be joined by a few ONUG IT business leader community members to ask calcifying questions in a “Shark Tank” format after each presentation.

The goal of this town hall meeting is for every community member to gain insight into the greatest challenges and solutions to building and running cloud-based digital enterprises.

Speakers:

Brian Silverman Senior Architect (Network & Cloud), McKesson Technology

Chris Stetson Cloud Architect, Cigna Hybrid Cloud

The shift from hardware to soft-ware-based infrastructure is accel-erating. Thus, the way infrastructure is envisioned, designed and deployed is transitioning toward software best practices of Agile project management and DevOps. DevOps is done by infra-structure groups to support applica-tion teams, but how do infrastructure teams use Agile and DevOps practices to deliver infrastructure services?

In five years, no one will be designing infrastructure. In this session, we discuss the challenges and opportu-nities of operationalizing automated infrastructure as code, be it in private clouds or IaaS consumption.

Session Type: Panel (Open Door) ONUG Working Group Track

Moderator:

Stephen Collins CTO, ONUG Working Group

Speakers:

Ted Turner Cloud Operations Monitoring, Intuit

Alex Henthorn-Iwane VP Product Marketing, ThousandEyes

The Hybrid Multi-Cloud Security Observability Working Group is addressing the unique challenges of gaining end-to-end visibility into applications, infrastructure and networks in complex hybrid multi-cloud environments in which the enterprise doesn’t own, operate or directly control the underlying infrastructure spanning multiple layers and domains.

In this session, the Working Group Co-Chairs will present ONUG’s hybrid multi-cloud observability model and an initial set of use cases for typical deployment scenarios, which the Working Group has documented in a set of “RFPs”. Panelists will provide an overview of the critical requirements in these RFPs, and how compliant reference solutions based on these will ensure application performance and security, drive infrastructure automation mechanisms and provide critical monitoring data for AIOps.
