Our nation has very diverse regions. Fromrocky shorelines to mountains, we live indifferent environments from cities tosuburbs to rural areas.
People from all over the world havesettled into our many regions. For example,Asians have settled in the West. TheSouthwest and Southeast have manyHispanics.
If you farm, you might live in theMidwest. If you mine, you might livein the Mountain West.
Regions are described by their landforms,vegetation, and climate. They are alsodefined by culture and economy. Let’s lookat six U.S. regions that share commonfeatures and also have unique differences.Exploring Regions

THE NORTHEAST
The Northeast region includes states fromMaine to Pennsylvania. Much of the regionhas mountains and coastal plains.
LandformsThe White, the Appalachian, the Green,and the Adirondack mountain ranges towerabove the land. A coastal plain runs alongthe Atlantic Ocean. Lake Ontario, LakeErie, and the St. Lawrence River define thewestern side.
