What is a cavity?
• Spaces inside the body that contain and protect organs
Cranial Cavity - contains the brain
Reproductive organs
(Urinary)
Spinal Cord Only
Contains: Heart, lungs, bronchi, trachea, esophagus, and thymus gland
Contains: stomach, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, small & large intestines, and appendix

Epigastric- just below sternum(breastbone)
Umbilical-around navel/umbilicus
Hypogastric- below stomach (pubic area)
Hypochondriac- below ribs
Illiac- right and left of pubic area aka inguinal
Lumbar- on each side of umbilicus
Extends anterior/posterior
Abdominal Quadrants:
four subdivisions used to reference abdominal organs
