It is the difference between the standard oflivingbetween people living in different regions.
In India, regional imbalance- a major concernbefore policy makers and planners.
A huge gap between active andvibrant regionsand backward regions in terms of availability offacilities which resulted in regional disparity.

Reduction in inter-state disparities has been
emphasizedduring successive Five Year Plans, butthe menace continued unabated.
With Economic Liberalization(1991-92) there has
been some progress , but a lot remains to be done.

In its (2006) report it observed sharpdifferentiation across states - acceleration of
growth in some states but declaration in others .
Again in (2008)mentioned disparity in incomedistribution in India has risen during 1993-2005
which was shown by fact that Gini-coefficient in thisconnection has risen from 0.3152 in 1993-94 to0.3676 in 2004-05.

GOVT Of INDIA must take immediate long termcorrective measures like :
Giving financial support to small scale & cottageindustries.
Free Education upto the age of 16 years for all.
Improving the public distribution system so thatgovt relief actually reaches the poor.

Measures to remove red tapism & nepotism.
Measures to keep population in check.
Providing basic amenities of life to all.
Providing primary medical facilities to all.
Improving the Infrastructure facilities.
