Season 2015

Welcome to Reginald 2015.
Now in its fifth year, the annual Reginald program has always presented great
performances from some of Australia’s leading small and independent arts companies.
In 2015 this tradition continues, but with a difference. This year we have curated the
program to build on our ongoing partnerships with two of Sydney’s leading independent
performance companies, still small, but with major records of achievement in recent years: Squabbalogic and Sport for Jove.
Each company will present two works that expand their reputations for truly innovative music theatre (Squabbalogic) and rigorous re-inventions of classics (Sport for Jove).
They will be joined by one of Melbourne’s top draw independent companies, Red Stitch,
who will present one of their most successful works from 2014, Grounded.
Join us and Reginald in 2015 for some absolute jewels of indi theatre.
Simply Spiffing.
Read on then ring the box office.

“A compelling, beautifully performed and directed piece of intimate, challenging theatre.” – Kate Herbert, The Herald Sun
Grounded
She’s an F16 fighter pilot; a rock star of the great big blue above. She loves the sky. And suddenly she is pregnant. Her career in the sky is over. Now, she sits in an air-conditioned trailer in Las Vegas flying remote-controlled drones.
As the pressure to track a high-profile target mounts, the boundaries between solider and mother begin to blur.
Grounded is a visceral, gripping story that flies through one woman’s internal war and her external battle.

Triassic ParqFrom Squabbalogic, producers of the sell-out smash independent musicals Carrie and The Drowsy Chaperone.
Based on one of the biggest blockbuster films of all time (you know the one we mean), and timed to coincide with the fourth instalment of the franchise hitting cinema screens in 2015, Triassic Parq brings dinosaurs, showtunes and sex changes together in this inventive new musical that will leave you laughing and crying all the way back to the prehistoric era.
When one female T-Rex suddenly turns male, the entire pack must question their identity, gender, and what is possible – examining
love, faith and science through a hilarious lens… And with singing. Singing dinosaurs.

Set in the desperation of the Great Depression, Of Mice and Men is one of the world’s most compelling tales of friendship and survival. George and Lenny are displaced migrant workers who dream of one day settling down on their own piece of land. Their shared vision of a better future and the strength of their friendship carry them through the loneliness, oppression and uncertainty of one of the world’s most profound eras
of disillusionment. The play, adapted by John Steinbeck from his extraordinary novel, remains a stunning indictment, particularly in today’s era of economic, political and moral disillusionment, of how we treat our disenfranchised fringe dwellers, our migrant peoples and our most vulnerable.

Monarch. Prisoner. Corpse. King Edward’s illicit desire will eclipse the law, alienate his nobles and wife, and threaten to destroy a nation. Marlowe’s 1593 tragic masterpiece, Edward II, shows us just how personal politics really is, offering a savage examination of an all too common modern story - how our deepest desires can lead to spectacular falls from grace.
Sport for Jove Theatre Company turns its acclaimed ensemble style toward Christopher Marlowe, Shakespeare’s best frenemy - bold, bad and dangerous to know. Come and see why this young ill-fated genius gave our Will nightmares.
By Christopher Marlowe Produced by Sport for Jove Theatre Company
Directed by Terry Karabelas

Adapted from the cult classic 1975 documentary by Pulitzer Prize Winning playwright Doug Wright (I Am My Own Wife) and songwriters Scott Frankel
and Michael Korle, the darkly thrilling, quirky and heart-breaking lives of Jackie Kennedy’s
reclusive aunt and cousin hits the stage in this Sydney premiere production.
The story explores the dysfunctional relationship between former
socialite Edith Bouvier Beale and her daughter, Little Edie, as they languish in the derelict East Hampton manor known as Grey Gardens. This award-winning Broadway musical is a feast of tour-de-force performances, with a gorgeous score, and intimate lyrics that the New York Times Ben Brantley described as “An experience no passionate theatre-goer should miss.”
