OVERVIEW & GOALS
Water is Life : A catch phrase for some, a call to action forothers, and for many a foundation of regenerative
economies.
On the 30th anniversary for Navdanya Institute, founder Dr. Vandana Shiva will
share insights into movements around the globe defending the right to Water,
joined by fellow Water protectors Maude Barlow and Chief Leslee White-Eye.
Our goal is to promote "Local and Indigenous Knowledge": the collected sciences, arts, stories, wisdom, technologies and experiences that form the foundations of Oral Traditions. Inthe spirit of that tradition, we are pleased to offer this day-long event on what maybe thetopic of our times - water. Various University of Waterloo organizations, Brock University, OISEand Blue Dot Movement (Waterloo Chapter) have pledged sponsorship, along with theGraduate Students' Endowment Fund.
We invite you to consider sponsoring this "once in a lifetime" convergence of hearts andminds. Sponsorship helps us keep this event FREE and accessible. Without organizations, individuals and institutions making such commitments, we would not be able to offer thisguest lecture from an esteemed and in-demand speakers and Mentors such as Dr. Shiva,Maude Barlow, Chief Leslee White-Eye, and Dr. Shiv Chopra.
With Respect,
Jodi KoberinskiUniversity of Waterloo MERS Candidate2015 Oak Fellow for Human Rights

REGENERATION:WATER IS LIFE
Why this talk? From Nestle to Standing Rock... From the threats to defund the Great Lakes water protectionefforts to the threats of climate change on water recharge and quality... From dwindling fossilwater in our food growing regions to regional conflicts over surface water rage... How werespond depends greatly on how we characterize water. While "Water is Life" is a rallying cryfor water protectors on the front lines, understanding what it means to recognize Water as"life" impacts what course of action we take at this crucial time.
Why this panel? With an introduction from Dr. Shiv Chopra, the internationally recognized leaders on our panel- women who've spent lifetimes in service to the interests of the people - are inspirationalspeakers who challenge audiences to act. Chief Leslee White-Eye and the Chippewa of theThames are engaged in a court battle to protect their waters. Maude Barlow and the Councilof Canadians continue to defend water rights on numerous fronts. Dr. Vandana Shiva's worktowards Earth Democracy began with the Chipko Movement and their efforts to protect water.
Local Knowledge and the AcademyUniversity courses across disciplines have taught Dr. Shiva's, Dr. Chopra's, and Maude Barlow'swork. We need your support to ensure more Canadians hear directly from these informed andengaged leaders. Oral transfer of knowledge builds understanding, and informs and enrichesour academic scholarship. We hope you support our efforts through sponsorship, attend theevent, and make use of the recordings during lectures and special events in the years to come.
Sponsorship benefits include:• blocks of tickets to ensure our sponsors' constituents directly benefit
