abot this boo! for obvios reasons# &hey'll probably thin I'm completely cra$y as it is#

I have not been there in this life p the canyon(! bt I remember the Essenes living at that place#

I believe they'll find the openings on the soth side of )ahal *avid %st this side of the falls# +

few days ago I plled p some pictres off the internet of that canyon# ,ess what &he wallsare of limestone and are honeycombed with caves# If yo notice! in the boo! I write abot lots of

water at that place# &he area arond the *ead .ea is almost all badlands desert! bt there is a

waterfall in )ahal *avid! and it's a very lsh place# /hen I wrote the boo! I had no idea of

Engedi as a name# +ll I remembered was a settlement p a canyon near the sea! and there wasplenty of water there#

/hile in Israel in .eptember of 0112! I fond Engedi by map dosing and rode there in a car# +s

we rode soth from Jericho! I thoght I'd %st made all this stff p becase the contryside

looed all flat and dry and totally wrong# However! when we approached Engedi! I startedfeeling better# &hen we ept driving soth! and I remembered: 3efore lie 4555 years before(!

we had waled with the doneys p the coast from the soth# In the car I started yelling and

boncing p and down! saying! "&hat was it! that was it6 /e fond it6" &he water level of the

*ead .ea is mch lower now# /e trned arond and went bac and stopped at the gamepreserve! bt didn't have time to hie p the canyons 'c$ the gy who had the car had to get

bac to &el +viv for his daghter's birthday# I thoght I saw deer there then! bt there are onlywild goats now# It's still a magical! sweet place with lots of birds# +nd! %st last wee Idiscovered that the ancient trail inland climbed some cliffs to the soth of Engedi - there's even a

pictre on the internet# &han god that I copyrighted that boo in 0114 before I ever went to

Israel#

7h! by the by! the ")a$is" at 8m Ran hated or Essene grop# &hey called s "long-hairs" and

every other name they cold thin of# &hey especially dislied John the 3aptist and Isha - way

too freethining for that bnch# 9eople sabbled %st as mch then as they do now#
