This fall semester was a challenge because it was the beginning of a new step in my life. Although it was a little difficult to deal with six classes at the same time, I did great in all of them. We did different activities in the RISE Program and they helped me to grow as a young researcher. As part of the RISE Program we took different workshops such as how to write in the CSE format, how to do a curriculum vitae, what is copyright, and distinguishing between a secondary and primary article. Other activities included going to scientific seminars, writing seminar’s reflections and analyzing articles. I have learned different skills that will help me in my future investigations. I know that I have gained a lot of scientific knowledge and this is very important for my eventual tasks. One experience that I will never forget is going to different summer research interviews. Attending to different interviews helped me to learn what is adequate to do and what is not when you are being interviewed. There are basic things that you should know about the CSE format for example, you should now that the citation inside the text should include the author’s last name and the year of publication. Inside the text, if there are more than three authors you should put the abbreviation et al. We also attended to a copy right workshop and we learned what plagiarism is. In addition we learned how to make curriculum vitae which is very important for the application of a job.

I really liked all the diverse seminars that we attended. After that, we needed to make a reflection of the seminar and the article. An activity that required time and dedication was reading and analyzing the articles. It was a little tedious to understand the different scientific terms that appeared in the different articles. Also, some investigations’ procedures were a little complicated. After doing several reflections you get used to understanding the articles

As part of the Seminar in Scientific Literature we chose a topic and then we looked for different articles related to that topic. My topic of the review paper is about medications that cause memory impairment. In this review paper I explain the process in which different medications are involved and as a result how they cause memory impairment. I found about seven articles for my review paper. I really enjoyed doing literature research about my topic because it is related to neurobiology and neuro toxicology.

This experience helped me to improve my scientific writing skills. Also I learned a lot about different scientific themes such as mycobacteria trehalome, Turing machine, critical thinking, C.elegans ,and lipins. Some of these concepts I did not know they existed. That is why this has been an enriching experience. As a result, I have grown as a Biology student and as a young scientist.
