Important Safeway /E-Scrip Update!

If you normally shop with your credit card, it is important

to know that beginning Friday,

November 1st, Safeway will not

contribute to the E-Scrip program for

credit card purchases. Instead, you can

use your debit card, cash, gift cards, EBT, and/or Scrip Gift

Card. Parents, if you haven't already signed up for E-Scrip,

please visit

https://secure.escrip.com/supporter/registration/index.jsp

It only takes a few minutes to register and once you have

registered your merchant cards, debit cards, and/or credit

cards, then participating merchants will automatically

donate a portion of your total purchase back to Reed

Elementary.

If you have a registered merchant card, but have not yet

registered your debit or credit card with the E-Scrip

program, you will receive a reminder email from E-Scrip to

renew your contact information and register additional

cards for additional automatic donations. For more

information, including a list of Frequently Asked Questions

and participating merchants, please visit www.escrip.com.

Family Service Night

Save the date: On Friday, November 15th, Reed PTA will be hosting a brand new event – Family Service Night. That evening, you and your family can meet at the cafeteria or the library to work on service projects for the community and learn more about ways to help in the future.

Pick from one of the service projects below or do all of them! Come prepared to: - assemble cat toys for the felines of the Humane Society - create Thanksgiving placements for Meals on Wheels clients - cut and knot no-sew blankets with Project Linus volunteers - color pictures for the kids staying at Good Samaritan Hospital - decorate book marks for the Reed School Library - listen to and discuss stories about big-hearted characters during story time - make a bank to take home and collect change for your favorite service group - get one more donation in for the Second Harvest Food Drive - and so much more! If you have any questions or want to help set-up, run a station, or clean-up, please contact Debbie Navratil at [email protected]. Volunteer Opportunity:

Are you looking to get involved? We

are looking for a Scrip seller on Friday

afternoons from 2:45-3:15 pm. This

requires you to be there every Friday!

It's a great way to meet more parents

and get involved!

If you are interested, please contact Caroline

Youkhanna at [email protected]

Second Harvest Food Bank Food Drive

Our annual food drive is

approaching quickly. The dates

are November 5th – 15th.

The Food Bank needs nutritious,

non-perishable foods such as meals in a can (stew, chili,

soup), tuna/canned meat, peanut butter, low sugar cereals,

100% fruit juices in single serving boxes, canned fruit and

vegetables.

Your generosity, especially this time of year with the

holidays fast approaching, is greatly appreciated. A bobcat

will be given when items are donated in the cafeteria.

November 5th will be a double bobcat day!

If you have any questions, you can contact the food drive

coordinator at [email protected]

The annual Fall Festival

was a huge success!

Thank you to everyone who

attended. We had a great turn

out and a good time was had by

hundreds of students, families, friends and neighbors.

Along with some old favorites, this year's event added a

few new festivities, such as:

"Club Karaoke", set up in the kinder area, complete with a real DJ, awesome light show, and a fog machine like no other, provided by dad, Matt Fransden

Scarecrow Alley, a fun hay maze with toddler wagon rides that showcased all our creative class scarecrows in one place, designed and created by 2 awesome Reed moms, Alisa D'Angelo and Erin Jordan

A custom made "Dungeon" with a foggy moat, where kids locked up their friends and teachers

Pirate Ship Treasure Dig, a fun game where kids dug for gold with real pirates; designed and built by a new kinder family and the Piedmont Hills High School Drama Department

A Friendly Fortune Teller booth where participants received positive messages from one of our favorite funny dads, Mike Scaletta

Our third grade students who sold hand painted rocks to raise money for a local homeless shelter. They raised $60 and sold out of rocks early in the night

County Supervisor Cindy Chavez, SJUSD Board President Pam Foley, and SJUSD Board Trustee Veronica Lewis all attended our event as special guests

Several other custom made games and activities were showcased throughout the school campus

We'd also like to thank former Reed mom Adrienne San

Filipo and her business partner Amy Frugoli for bringing

the Sugar Tree Sweets and Treats truck onto campus for

the night. They'll be donating a portion of the proceeds

made from the evening to Reed PTA. Special keepsake

photo mementos were provided by The Laugh Box, a

professional photo booth and flip book party company.

As always, the Haunted House was one of our most

popular attractions, run by Reed parent Dorothea Jansen.

It takes over a week to get it all set up, and is no small

undertaking! What a task!

The Fall Festival takes months to prepare for, with

planning beginning before the prior school year ends, and

relies heavily on volunteers from our community. In fact,

we utilized over 150 volunteers logging in over 600 hours

of their time! Aside from our high school and college

volunteers, dozens of parents donated their time and

services to make this event such a big hit.

If you are interested in CO-CHAIRING the event next year

or taking on one of our committee chair positions, please

contact Liz Guthrie at fall [email protected]

If you see the following parents and Reed staff around

campus, please stop to say THANKS for all their amazing

hard work and dedication!
