Reflection Statement 404

Reflection Statement (NUTR 404) In this class, Food Service Management, I learned about the business aspect of owning a food service organization. As a foods and nutrition major student, this is the only business class I have taken. Although the material seemed a bit dry at the time, looking back I realize that I know so much about food service business and successful management. The instructor used different methods such as videos and guest speakers to educate us on this topic. She introduced us to professionals in the field and we heard about their challenges, likes and dislikes about owning a business. One of my favorite activities in this class was to come up with an elevator pitch, an idea that is unique and new, and present it to the class. We were also encouraged to share any hot trends or new innovation technology in food service with the class and earn points. Presenting this information to the class, I believe that my public speaking skills have improved. In addition, as a part of the class assignments, I worked on a group project with four other individuals. This was a semester long project and helped me learn how to stay committed to my group, show up at different days and times and work on the project, do research and share and discuss information. Working on the group project (Omega Bites Business Plan) was my favorite

This was a semester long project and helped me learn how to stay committed to my group, show up at different days and times and work on the project, do research and share and discuss information. Working on the group project (Omega Bites Business Plan) was my favorite take away from this class. I learned so much about the different parts of running a business such as coming up with a mission statement, find a gap in the market, finding the target audience, working with experts in each area, purchasing equipment, budgeting, marketing and many other areas. The information I learned in this class will help me become a more knowledgeable professional in the field. Although I dont see myself owning a business one day, I can certainly help failing businesses to get back on their feet and become profitable. I also have the knowledge and the tools to help someone interested in owning a business.
