School’s Out

As this is my first year in the position of Head of the Business Admini-stration and Economics Department here at CITY College, I would like to take the opportunity and write a few words as a reflection for this exciting period. For many of our students, the academic environment will shortly be-come a memory. For some others, who will continue studying at an-other level, new paths of education will open and new challenges will be waiting. And I am certain that there are promises to be kept by all of you! If I had to describe this academic year, I would definitely describe it as the year of enhancement and of a very good cooperation built among us. Together we have created new learning experiences; together we have identified and resolved issues, together we have developed new programs and events. And all these initiatives took place under one fundamental condition: the student is and always will be at the cen-ter of our operation. What is the philosophy we try to instill throughout our School? “We want our students to be initiators; we want our students to be

leaders; we want our students to be sensitive to social issues; we

want our students to be action and result oriented. CITY College, the International Faculty of the University of Sheffield has a long tradition in excellence. Our alumni own successful busi-nesses around the region, hold important managerial positions in many European countries, and make a difference in their communities where they unfold their talents. Our College is committed to providing a qual-ity education to its students. With a constant review of our curriculum and with continuous processes of enhancing our teaching and learning quality standards, we aim to help our students to be at a very compe-tent level in their professional life. At this point, I would like to wish to each one of you health and balance in your lives. I strongly believe that if you have those, you can develop your talents and your abilities to a great extent. You posses all attrib-utes needed to succeed: you have acquired a degree from a top uni-versity, you have gotten knowledge and invaluable experiences through classes, company visits, seminars and workshops; comple-ment those with hard work and passion and the success will come. Concluding this short message, I would like to sincerely thank each one of my colleagues—administrative and teaching—for their in-valuable contribution, for the countless hours of work, and for the effort and dedication they have shown though out the year! THANK YOU!

Dr. Dimitrios V. NIKOLAIDIS Head of Business Administration & Economics Department

School’s Out!!!

To celebrate the end of the academic year 2010-2011, CITY Marketing Club and CSU organised a party at one of the most intriguing and well-known night-life hot spots in Thes-saloniki, the MINIBAR. Students enjoyed the party and re-laxed for a little bit before the examination period. The MINIBAR nightclub is the newest hot spot for the young, fashionable and sexy night crawlers of Thessaloniki. With weekly events and R'n'B parties, you are sure to have a blast any night your drop by. CITY Marketing Club and CSU would like to thank Mr. Markellos Mouratidis, owner and administrator of the night-club, for his help in organising the party.

2nd Workshop on Supply Chains and

Logistics

The 2nd workshop on supply chains and logistics successfully took place on 8 June 2011, 18:00-21:00, at the auditorium “Rodoula Kehaghia”. The title of the workshop was “Green Supply Chains: from Theory to Practice” and it aimed to inform managers as well as future managers (current students) about the latest developments in one of the most contemporary and “hot” topics in business practices. The workshop was divided into three main parts. The first part was pre-sented mainly by academics from CITY College and invited speakers from the University of Macedonia, discussing concepts and practices such as what are/are not green practices along the supply chain (within company boundaries and beyond), measuring and communicating environmental per-formance, and factoring environmental costs into the financial results of op-erations (green accounting). The second part involved case studies from Pyramis, Isomat and AB Vassi-lopoulos, each presented by an executive person of the respective company. The third part included a Q&A session, followed by a panel discussion con-sisted of distinguished guests. All presentations took place in the Greek language. Entrance was free-of-charge.

“Speaking Metaphorically”

“Speaking Metaphorically”: Pictures that convey business messages. Students used their digital cameras or their cellular phones to photograph 3 scenes from the everyday life that “convey” messages related to a business concept (i.e. 3 people talking = Communication, 3-4 children cooperate in sand = teamwork, a horse in the fields = pride or power, a pilot driving a plane= leadership, an athlete trying to go beyond his limits = strength, passion, persistence, etc.. Through their pictures, they have tried to depict notions or pictures that showed Decision-making, Social care, Effectiveness, Result, Communication, Synergy, People, Organization, Planning, Strategy, Innovation, Adoptability, Integrity, Determination, Ambition, Vision, Persis-tence, Decentralization, Control, focus, Teamwork, Ethics, Hard work.

The best projects were printed in large posters (80X60) with the students’ names and year underneath and decorate the classrooms of OUR school.
