Babson HouseRu-1150 series

Babson House is a hand-knotted wool Tibetan carpet. Louis Sullivan, the noted Architect and mentor to Frank Lloyd Wright, designed a house built

in 1907 in Riverside, Illinois for Henry Babson. Sullivan commissioned a carpet to be woven for use in the foyer to Babson House, which reflected

his belief of using stylized botanical patterns as ornamentation. The Babson House rug is a shining example of Prairie style. The border design is

from the ancient symbol used for thunder and is sometimes called a thunder key. Woven by Tibetan weavers using wool from the Tibetan

The Donegal is a hand-knotted wool Tibetan carpet. It all began in 1898, when Alexander Morton & Company of London began producing

hand-woven carpets in Donegal, Ireland. Gustav Stickley owned several Donegal carpets, and in the December 1906 issue of “The Craftsman”,

Stickley states: “For those wanting the very best in rugs and carpets, there is an end to the quest in the rich, artistic and everlasting Donegal

Rugs... in depth and closeness of pile, richness of coloring, and grace of design, nothing can excel these Donegal products.” Originally displayed

at Grafton Gallery in London during a Liberty’s exhibition in 1903, this carpet design artfully depicts the boughs of a giant hemlock. Woven by

Tibetan weavers using handspun wool from the Tibetan highland sheep, this carpet is as popular today as it was during Gustav’s era.

Wild RoseRu-1370 series

Wild Rose is a hand-knotted wool Tibetan carpet. Inspired by the works of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the Scottish architect/designer/artist

who gained international notice in the early 20th century for his unlikely union of forms that bridged the worlds of Art Nouveau and

Modernism. His work, which included private residences, public buildings, furnishings, and interiors, was often characterized by the blending

together of square patterns with long sweeping arches and fanciful curves. He created both order and complexity through the richness of this

motif, often setting up relationships among the squares in a piece while highlighting the sensuous lines and spaces in between.

to India, which inspired Mughal artists to reproduce their own plants naturalistically. The flowerheads on this superb rug fall within a trellis formed

by curved serrated leaves. The color pallet reflects the traditional colors from the Rajasthan region where Jaipur is located. Similar floral work can

The creation of a Stickley Designer rug begins with the finest natural fiber known to man, wool. Wool fibers are covered with layers

arranged much like shingles on a roof. This layering keeps dirt from penetrating the outer cover of the fiber helping prevent soiling

and staining. Spot cleaning wool can be done easily before a stain is set and regular vacuuming is all that is required for routine daily

care. Wool resists soiling, cleans easily, is thousands of times more flexible and durable than synthetic fibers, does not burn, and

insulates and absorbs sound. Rugs made of wool last for hundreds of years through continuous use and remain beautiful examples

of combined art, durability, and creativity.

The art of rug weaving spans more than twenty centuries and is as rich and colorful as these magnificent rugs themselves. The

earliest rugs were woven by nomadic tribal peoples as utilitarian ground covers. The Tibetan Dali Lama’s horse had its very special

hand-knotted silk saddle blankets and Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan erected carpet factories in the shadows of the Taj Mahal.

Rugs usually provide a lifetime of utility, joy, and satisfaction to their owners. They become family heirlooms that are passed down for

generations to enjoy. These valued possessions are always in style and enhance beautiful hardwood floors. When rugs are properly cared

for, they seldom loose their value thus allowing them to be resold or traded in toward a new rug.

Since 1900, Stickley has been a family owned and operated business. With our vast knowledge of interior design, our understanding

of furniture’s form and function, and appreciation of fine oriental rugs, we carefully select the best designs and colors to complement

today’s interiors.

Stickley buys directly from the finest weavers in each producing country. We carefully select the best designs and colors to create

works of art. Our Arts and Crafts rugs are unique and complement Stickley Furniture. These Stickley Designer Rugs are sold in stores

that are respectable and credible and share Stickley’s belief that “reputation is precious but character is priceless”. Stickley stands

behind and warranties all rugs for the life of the original owner. We honor the integrity of the carpet by honoring this warranty.

G E N E R A L C A R E A N D C L E A N I N G

Your Oriental rug is a preeminent example of combined art, durability, and creativity and deserves the same care and attention youwould accord to a fine piece of furniture. Your efforts will be rewarded time and time again through years of lasting satisfactionwith the unique beauty of your oriental carpet.

1. Vacuum regularly; at least once a week. Regular vacuuming will help remove destructive grit that is tracked on the surface andsifts through the wool fibers to the foundation of the rug. Occasionally, you should vacuum the back of the rug to draw out the veryshort, light absorbing bits of yarn that can otherwise dull the luster of the carpet.

2. Wet clean as required; generally not more than once every two years, preferably by a professional carpet cleaner. Professionalcleaning will remove the grit and dirt that becomes deeply embedded as well as the surface soiling that dulls the appearance of thecarpet. Cleaning should be done only by a professional cleaning service that specializes in oriental rugs, and not by a broadloomcleaner unfamiliar with the hand-woven product.

3. Cope with stains immediately. Whenever possible, clean a spill immediately before it has a chance to set. First, scrape up anysolid dirt or blot up excess liquid with a paper or cloth towel. Depending on the type of spill, a simple variety of household solutions may be used. Specific stain treatments, as supplied by The Wool Bureau, are as follows:

Alcoholic Beverages Detergent / Vinegar / Cleaning SolventBlood Detergent / Vinegar / Starch PasteChewing Gum Freeze with Ice / Scrape / SolventChocolate Detergent / Vinegar / Cleaning SolventCoffee Cold Water / Detergent / SolventCola / Soft Drink Warm Water / DetergentFruit Juices Cold Water / DetergentFurniture Polish Cleaning Solvent / Detergent / AmmoniaGravy / Sauces Warm Water / DetergentMildew Call a reputable cleanerMud DetergentRust Solvent / Detergent / Rust RemoverSalad Dressing Detergent / Cleaning SolventTea Cold Water / Detergent / SolventUrine Detergent / VinegarVomit Detergent / Vinegar / Cleaning SolventWine Absorbent Powder / Cold Water / Detergent

1. Detergent Solution: One teaspoon clear dishwashing soap in one-cup warm water.2. Ammonia Solution: One Tablespoon clear ammonia in 1/2-cup water.3. Vinegar Solution: 1/3 cup white vinegar in 2/3-cup water.4. Solvent: A dry-cleaning solvent (available at hardware and grocery stores.)

Techniques on cleaning stains1. Do it fast2. Blot up excess spills with paper towels. DO NOT RUB.3. Apply antidote from the preceding list. with a clean dry cloth, working from edges to center. DO NOT SOAK.4. Blot excess antidote with paper towels. Dry with fan or hair dryer.5. Restore direction of pile with clothes brush.
