3 year Federal Grant to reduce alcohol abuse among secondary students
Focus: to create a comprehensive, research-based prevention program that will serve all district high schools
Goals•Decrease alcohol use and binge drinking among high school students•Increase the number of students disapproving of alcohol use•Enhance the local capacity to implement and sustain a highly effective alcohol abuse prevention education program for secondary students
LiveFree! Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition
consists of members of the community coming
together to address alcohol and other drug use in
Pinellas County.
High schools are establishing LiveFree!

Target Schools
•Two Student Assistance Counselors housed full time at Dunedin High, East Lake High, Palm Harbor University High, and Tarpon High•Fourteen core lessons of Too Good for Drugs curriculum•Lessons taught by high school students to elementary students using the peer teaching model•Individual and group counseling•Parent/Community Presentations

•Collaboration with Community Substance Abuse Coalition•Creation of Community Advisory Council•Creation of Pinellas Youth Substance Abuse Prevention Delegation•Development of Annual Youth Summit on Underage Drinking•Formation of LiveFree! Chapters in each school•Parent/Community Presentations
