Reduce the Risk of Slips & FallsIn Food Processing Plants
Food Processing: Injury ProneAccording to the California Department of Labor Statistics and Research, workers in food-processing
plants have a higher likelihood of being hurt on the job than workers in many other industries.1
The floor of a food processing facility is typically exposed to all sorts of food byproducts, including fats, hot oils, blood, sugar solutions, and natural food acids. While these substances can
themselves injure employees, they also increase the risk of accidents associatedwith wet or slick flooring and stairs.

Falling into InjuriesOSHA estimates that there are roughly 24,882 injuries and as many as 36 fatalities per year due to falls
from staircases and ladders. Nearly half of these injuries are serious enough to require time off the job -11,570 lost workday injuries and 13,312 non-lost workday injuries occur annually due to falls from
staircases and ladders.1 These numbers do not include slips and falls from floors or overhead platforms.

Accident Prone AreasThe most common risk areas for employee injuries due to falls include:
• Flooring• Handrails• Ladder Rungs• Stair Treads
• Stair Noses• Catwalks• Mezzanines• Drain Covers
When exposed to food byproducts, these areas of a food processing plant becomedangerously slick and raise the risk of employee injuries.
The High Cost of InjuryEmployee injuries are costly. A single injury can easily cost tens, if not hundreds,
of thousands of dollars due to:
• Accident investigations• OSHA logs• Employee downtime• Employee turnover
• Employee retraining• Insurance premium increases• Medical services• Hiring a temporary replacement worker
This list doesn't take into account the drop in production due to discomfort while workingand lowered employee morale - costs that may be impossible to calculate.

Get anAssessment
Hire a professional to come out and assess the surfaces more likely to cause injury to employees.

SprayIt On
Slip-resistant coating that is. Any high-risk surface area should be covered in a reliable and durable anti-slip coating.
#2
Keep ItClean
Make sure to include all non-slip covered surfaces in your sanitation process.
