Birmingham has some fantastic community facilities centred around the ethos of reduce, reuse and recycle, but residents, schools and businesses don’t always know how to access them, so the partnering scheme acts as a hub of knowledge. The more organisations that partner with the campaign, the better key messages and resources can be shared. Birmingham is serious about aiming for a zero waste future, and everyone who lives or works in the city needs to be empowered to help make that future a reality.
Why partner the Cleaner, Greener Streets campaign? Brum is brimming with potential Zero Heroes, people who can incorporate the principles of reduce, reuse and recycle into their everyday home and working lives. However, often people don’t know how to make the simple changes in their life that will make a big difference to Birmingham’s waste – which is where the Cleaner, Greener Streets Zero Hero campaign comes in. The concept of Zero Heroes is that everyone can contribute some part, no matter how small, to combat excess waste.
Reduce, Reuse and Recycle
For schools and residents
There is so much available for partnering organisations, with reduce, reuse and recycle tips to suit people from all walks of life and of all ages. Helping Birmingham’s residents to change their daily habits is key to working towards a zero waste future. Partnering organisations will benefit from material such as ‘how to’ guides, which will explain the easily accessible options residents have to engage with the campaign, such as making the most of kerbside recycling.
To target Birmingham’s youngest residents – the decision-makers of the future – there will be
specialist material. These include downloadable lesson plans for
schools, so children of all ages will be able to understand the importance of reducing waste, with recycling facts presented in a fun, child-friendly way.
Partnering businesses
By working together, organisations across Birmingham have an opportunity to create a dramatic change in people’s attitudes to waste, something with long-lasting positive consequences for the city as a whole. By partnering the Cleaner, Greener Streets campaign businesses can motivate both their staff and clients to change their behaviour and become Zero Heroes.
There will be a carefully curated collection of webinars available, as well as opportunities to share best practice and resources. By joining together, businesses can plug gaps in their services by signposting to another organisation that can help. This mutually beneficial process will ensure that the common goals of reduce, reuse and recycle are strengthened across all sectors.
What is the campaign offering?
