WelcomeDear Parents / Carers

Rednock School has been on a journey – a journey of self-improvement with the ultimate aim

of creating excellence for every child who attends the school.

Teaching and learning are rigorously monitored so that they are consistently good or even

better. This is our core business; this is what makes a difference to your child.

In partnership with you, Rednock School will do the best for your child so that they get the

qualifications and life skills necessary for the next steps. At Rednock, we believe that every

student matters – everyone is important, everyone has a voice. That is why we ensure that

we provide a quality education which will bring about success for every student.

Qualifications are important but so are the life skills; the enriched curriculum which we offer is

second to none; our pastoral care is outstanding. We go that extra mile because we care.

Our ethos is to help everyone; to make sure everyone has an opportunity to achieve,

to flourish.

I look forward to meeting you and showing you that Rednock School delivers on its promises.

Yours faithfully

A Broad and Balanced CurriculumAt Rednock School we offer a curriculum tailored to the needs of all our learners. Students are

constantly challenged to improve and develop their knowledge and skills in a supportive, caring

environment. Our students learn to think independently and enjoy the challenges our teachers

provide for them. Our ultimate aim is for all students to reach their full potential.

We offer a range of both GCSE and A Level subjects and vocational courses.

For those students working below national expectations in English and Mathematics, we give extra

support to ensure they make swifter progress and catch-up with their peers.

In Year 10 all students begin GCSE courses. After school booster sessions and revision classes are

offered to all GCSE students, before taking their exams.

As students move into the Sixth Form, there are further opportunities to improve grades in GCSE

Maths and English alongside studying for A Level, BTEC or V Cert qualifications.

Our teachers are also learners as we strive to continuously provide the highest quality teaching. We

have weekly professional development sessions for all our staff and ensure that we are up to date

with current educational developments.

Our son is happy at school and for a teenager that is brilliant. He is still interested in his

school subjects and motivated to learn which is down to the standard of teaching in the

school and the motivation provided by the school. - Parent Kirkland Rowell Survey March 2015

PastoralAt the heart of our pastoral programme is our community system, providing support and allowing everyone to flourish. Each student is assigned to one of the following communities:BRUNEL | DARWIN | HUBBLE | JENNERStudents in Years 7 to 11 are in mixed aged tutor groups and each tutor group belongs toone of our four communities. The four communities share a common purpose and ethos. Both teaching and support staff are actively involved in supporting tutor groups andpromoting the communities.Tutors and Community Leaders closely follow the development and academic progress ofstudents providing timely support when required. We believe in working in partnershipwith parents and maintain regular contact through parents’ consultation meetings and ourreporting system. We work quickly to involve parents where there are issues or concerns.Rednock is a true community and we are proud of that community spirit. Our ethos isfounded on mutual respect and understanding in which the contribution of each individualis valued. The Life Skills, Careers and Student Voice programmes are important vehiclesfor creating and reinforcing this ethos.

This is a good school, you can easily talk to staff and they will help you.

We feel extremely lucky to have such a

good school in our community.

Despite its large size, individual

children are recognised and thrive. Parent Kirkland Rowell Survey March 2015

Moving from Primary SchoolRednock School places high importance on making sure the transition from primary to secondary school ishandled sensitively and proficiently, in full consultation with parents and with primary school colleagues. We pride ourselves on the level of care we take for each child, making sure that everyone settles quicklyand happily in their new surroundings. As part of their preparation for secondary school life, primary school pupils have the opportunity toparticipate in a taster day as part of their preparation for secondary school life. We aim to make sure ourYear 7 students know their new school and tutor by the time they join us in September and are lookingforward to joining our school community.

Care and SupportAt Rednock School the welfare, happiness and progress of every student is very important to us.

Care, guidance and support at Rednock is strong. Our primary belief is that every student

should enjoy school and achieve their full potential and enjoy and celebrate success. Everyone

has unique challenges and we are committed to providing the highest standards of care and

support for all through our excellent teachers, SENCo, our Gifted and Talented Coordinator and

teaching assistants. We work with the single aim of creating aspirational, happy, confident and

well-rounded young people.

Beyond the ClassroomWith our extended school day, students have the opportunity to attend a wide range of after

school clubs and activities, enriching their experience.

Rednock School believes that education is not confined to the classroom and that our

students learn from taking part in other activities within and beyond the school day.

Residential school trips are an integral part of the curriculum, from field study trips to spending

time in France speaking French and exploring the culture; from music tours in Europe to

playing cricket and netball in the Caribbean. The very popular annual ski trip is always heavily

oversubscribed and offers a fantastic opportunity to experience a new culture as well as learn

new skills.

Our sporting facilities allow for an extensive range of extra-curricular clubs and sports teams

and students of all ages and sporting ability are encouraged to become involved in inter-

community competitions and in the school’s sports day.

With the delivery of our extra-curricular and enrichment activities we aim to foster teamwork,

leadership and the development of individual responsibility.

The science outreach coordinator has supported the school in becoming a centre

for professional development in science teaching. The school has a team of sixth

form science, technology, engineering and mathematics ambassadors who deliver

enrichment workshops to primary and secondary students. This both develops the

leadership skills of the students and improves the quality of experience of all

students in the school. - OfSTED November 2014

Next StepsRednock Sixth Form provides students with exceptional progression opportunities across a

wide range of A Level and vocational courses.

Students are offered a choice from a wide selection of subjects to develop a personal Sixth

Form programme tailored to their own needs and aspirations.

In order to enrich and stretch students further, we offer the Extended Project Qualification.

This allows students to pursue their academic interests in more depth and develops research

and enquiry skills required at undergraduate university level. The successful completion of

an Extended Project Qualification has a very positive impact on university applications.

Rednock Sixth Form has its own distinctive ethos. Students have increasing independence

and autonomy and are encouraged to develop these skills for life.

Central to the ethos of the Sixth Form is the role of pastoral support. An experienced team

of Sixth Form Personal Tutors work closely with students to ensure transition from Year 11 to

Year 12 is seamless and to ensure their tutees reach their potential.

Students are given effective independent careers guidance as well as support for

applications to universities and employment in both Year 12 and Year 13 to

prepare them for the next stage of their lives. - OfSTED November 2014
