Tips . . .Make goals reachable (but challenging)
Lots of people can implement activities to help students reach the goals (e.g. teachers, scout leaders)
Don’t include goals that you can’t reach by the end of next school year.
Goals should form a logical pyramid (guidance & counseling choices achievement).

Goal Pyramids
TASK 1 - ACHIEVEMENT
Student Achievement GoalsLook at the Student Achievement
Priorities. Given the resources we have, which of these should be GOALS for the
School Counseling Program?
PROGRAM GOALS
TASK 2 – STUDENT CHOICES
Student Choice Goals
What choices do students need to make in order to reach the academic goal in
this pyramid?
Look the Student Choice Priorities List. Do any of these apply?
PROGRAM GOALS
TASK 3 - GUIDANCE
Guidance Goals
What guidance knowledge or skillsdo students need to make
the choices in this pyramid?
Look the Guidance Priorities List. Do any of these apply?
PROGRAM GOALS
NOTE:Schools seeking the Indiana Goal Star School Counseling Award must include ALL of the suggested ASAI guidance indicators as guidance goals (to ensure that you have addressed all of the Indiana Student Standards for Guidance.
Schools seeking the ASCA RAMP Award are not required to include all of the ASAI guidance standards as guidance goals. Schools should include only those ASCA indicators that are part of their goals pyramids.
TASK 4 – COUNSELING
Counseling Goals
What personal or social problem must some students address to make
the choices in this pyramid?
Look the Counseling Priorities List. Do any of these apply?
PROGRAM GOALS
CHECK:Given the resources available, including time, do we have the capacity to implement activities to address all of our guidance and counseling goals?
IF NOT:•Obtain additional resources•Omit guidance / counseling goals
NOTE: If a goals pyramid no longer makes sense because you omitted key guidance / counseling goals, consider omitting student choice and achievement goals too.
