Red Oaks Primary School 21st February 2018 Value this term The value this term is RESPECT and we will be thinking about this in whole school assemblies. As usual, children and parents are invited to respond to the questions this term under the values section of the website. These responses will be shared from time to time in assembly. http://www.redoaks.org/values01.php Hair and make up A polite request for no extreme hairstyles to make an appearance at school please. This includes shaved zigzags and patterns and unnatural colours please. Make up, temporary tattoos and nail varnish are not part of school uniform and children will be asked to remove these. Thank you for your support and help with our smart appearance. Car Park We all know that the car park can be a very busy place at drop off and pick up times and at times this can be frustrating. We ask that adults consider the language they use towards others at all times as there are many children around that can overhear unpleasant and threatening exchanges and become upset. Thank you. Girl Guiding & Scouting -Thinking Day or Founder’s Day TOMORROW - 22 nd February You may be aware that, in Girl Guiding and Scouting, they have a special day on 22 nd February called Thinking Day or Founder’s Day. On that day all members of Girl Guiding and Scouting celebrate to remember their founders and pioneers, Lord Baden-Powell and his wife, Lady Baden-Powell, both of whom were born on 22 nd February. On that day they think about the Promise, our Girl Guiding and Scouting heritage and their members around the globe, as they both have organisations all over the world. This year, unusually, 22nd February is on a school day and tradition is that all members wear their uniform on that day, to shout out about Girl Guiding and Scouting, and to show the world that both organisations are still very much alive and going strong in the 21st Century! With that in mind any of our pupils who are members of Girl Guiding and Scouting are invited to wear their uniform tomorrow - Thursday 22nd February. National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS) Listening Bus Roadshow The National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS) Listening Bus Roadshow will be coming to Red Oaks Primary School next Thursday, 1 st March 2018. During the NDCS’s visit children will have the opportunity to learn more about NDCS, learn about childhood deafness, technology and education. Easy Fund Raising A big thank you to all the people who have signed up to easy fundraising! This is already making a difference. If you have not yet signed up please take 2 minutes to do so. Swindon Dolphin have been shortlisted as a finalist in Persimmon Health Communities initiative with the chance to win £200,000 for community use.

About the initiative...

Persimmon Healthy Communities will donate over £600,000 to support amateur youth sport in England, Wales and Scotland. The final 30 sporting groups will each receive at least £5,000 each, with two runners up getting £50,000 each and the overall winner a cool £200,000.

Cast your vote every day to help your favourite sporting group.

Swindon Dolphin ASC are working closely with, and supported by Tigersharks / Swindon ASC and Wroughton on this Swindon wide community initiative. This is primarily about the small pool at Milton Road which is something all swim clubs are committed to.

By voting for Swindon Dolphin ASC you will be giving hundreds of children one of the most important life skill – to learn to swim. Swindon Dolphin, along with Tigersharks / Swindon ASC and Wroughton will aim to use the majority of the £200,000 to try and reopen the teaching pool at the Health Hydro in the centre of Swindon creating a valuable new facility for schools and swimming clubs in the area.

Make your vote (and voice) count, by voting every day at :

https://www.persimmonhomes.com/healthy-communities

Please help spread the word as far as you can, as the winners of the Persimmon Homes Healthy Communities will be decided purely by the public vote. The vote closes on March 16th 2018 with the winners announced on March 22nd.

All information correct at time of publishing and available at swindondolphin.co.uk and persimmonhomes.com/healthy-communities
