The BA, LLB (Hons.) and BBA, LLB (Hons.) Programs at School of Law, Christ University were initiated with the

objective of creating legal professionals who make a difference in the society we live in. They have been

designed to stimulate and sharpen the legal acumen of students to prepare them in meeting the numerous

challenges of the professional world. It has been our earnest attempt to instill in our students, a sense of

professionalism backed by sound knowledge of law. The faculty of SLCU has constantly endeavored to

nurture these young professionals by employing modern methods of teaching and training, thereby

equipping them to take up important roles in our society.

I am proud to present the batch of 2011-2016 to the legal community. They have been handpicked from different parts of the country via a rigorous

selection process. Over the past four years, I have seen this batch reach great heights in various academic, co curricular and extracurricular pursuits.

The SLCU curriculum has been conceptualized to create world class legal experts who keep abreast with the latest changes and developments in law.

Students have also completed internships with various organizations, thereby exposing them to the nuances of the professional world.

I welcome you to the University and I sincerely hope that you may induct these young professionals into the legal fraternity by providing the right

Director's Message

I am delighted to present to you, the sixth batch of BA, LLB (Hons.) and BBA, LLB (Hons.) students graduating from the

School of Law. The combination of theoretical and practical training that is part of these courses has given them the

opportunity to be strong academics as well as to keep abreast with the recent developments in the field. Numerous

initiatives have been undertaken taken by this batch which have enabled this institution to scale new heights in its quest

to provide legal education of a high quality.

The curriculum and course structure at the School of Law aims at grooming students to meet the rigorous challenges that

are part and parcel of the legal profession. The batch of 2016 has shown great fortitude in overcoming a number of

challenges that have been placed before them over the last four years.

This batch has achieved excellence in a number of fields which include taking part and winning several prestigious moot court competitions,

debates, organising conferences, seminars and competitions apart from having a number of publications to their credit. Their potential can also be

seen in the various collaborations the law school has had with firms of repute such as Thomson Reuters Westlaw India in forming Student

Partnership Programs as well as with Surana & Surana in organising the Pan India Rounds of the Philip C Jessup International Law Moot Court

Competition in 2015 as well as the South India rounds in 2014.

I am confident that this batch of students will strive to establish themselves as leaders in every field. With this, I take the opportunity to extend my

The BA, LLB (Hons.) and BBA, LLB (Hons.) programs at the School of Law, Christ University were initiated with the

objective of creating a nurturing ground for future legal professionals. SLCU strives to impart comprehensive legal

knowledge to the student community along with professional ethics and values.

It gives me immense pleasure and delight to introduce to you the students of the sixth batch of School of Law, Christ

University. This batch has been the pride of the University and has helped immensely in creating a niche for SLCU as one

of the most sought after law schools in the country. They have excelled academically as well as in various co-curricular

and extra-curricular activities including advocacy competitions, conferences, moot court activities, debate

competitions, sports and cultural activities.

The unmatched infrastructure comprising of well-equipped audio-visual classrooms, resourceful libraries with the latest legal publications and

journals, conference halls, moot court hall and above all, a conducive environment to study and explore numerous possibilities aids in tapping one's

utmost potential and perseverance in achieving excellence. Students have been exposed to the pragmatic realities of the legal environment through

guest lectures conducted by experts from the field. This has indeed bridged the gap between practice and theory.

Having observed this batch closely through my various interactions within the classroom as well as outside, I am delighted to pronounce that each

student has the potential to make significant contributions to the field. The School of Law in its preceding recruitment drives has witnessed a

remarkable response from law firms, advocates, corporates, LPOs and so on. I hereby personally extend the warmest welcome to you and I am

The School of Law, formed in 2006 is a part of Christ University, Bangalore, which was founded and is administered by Carmelites of Mary

Immaculate, the first indigenous Catholic religious congregation of India, known for rendering its service to humanity in educational, social,

healthcare and other activities. The University is a premier educational institution with an academic fraternity dedicated to the motto of 'Excellence

and Service'. Christ University has the rare distinction of being the first institution in Karnataka to be accredited by the National Assessment and

Accreditation Council, UGC and reaccredited with an A+ in 2005 for providing quality education.

Located in the heart of the city, SLCU is an institute imparting world class legal education to a large student body. The School of Law offers

Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctoral programs in law, in accordance with the guidelines of the Bar Council of India and the University Grants

Commission. The ethos of imparting education in SLCU comprises of a mutual endeavor by the faculty and the students selected through a rigorous

selection procedure. The curriculum is designed to inculcate in the students the professional skills of advocacy.

The Law School has been established with a mandate to create lawyers who are ambitious, professionally capable, and socially responsive; lawyers

who will be equipped to face the myriad challenges generated by a dynamic society. The programs offered at the School of Law incorporate a number

of special opportunities such as internships, clinical programs, supervisory research and writing. In order to promote interaction between students

and legal professionals, seminars, guest lectures and workshops are conducted on various subjects at regular intervals.

Priding itself on a pan Indian crown, SLCU has emerged a frontrunner, being one of the few law schools in the country to offer a BBA, LLB (Hons.)

degree, which is an integrated course of business administration and law, for young aspirants who wish to work in the corporate sector.

The world class infrastructure which includes a state of the art library creates an ambience that promotes research ensuring that the students of

SLCU set out towards an enquiry and solution driven approach to arrive at a holistic and compassionate understanding of the regulations of society

and associated institutions.

Auditoriums and Halls

A 2000 seater air conditioned auditorium with state of the art

projection, audio and lighting system is available for various

events and occasions such as moot court competitions, model

united nations, conferences, seminars and cultural activities. A

300 seater auditorium in the central block caters to the needs for

meetings and workshops at the micro level. Two more

auditoriums namely Campus View and Sky View are located in

the central block. Apart from these auditoriums, Conference Hall, Assembly Hall,

Seminar Hall, Panel Room, Terrace Garden, Mini Auditorium, Council Room and

Birds Park are available exclusively for institutional and departmental programs.

State of the art infrastructure, amidst greenery, is the hallmark of the University.

Various seminar halls, Wi-Fi enabled and LCD mounted classrooms and vast sports

grounds add to the ambience of this institution of higher learning.


Library

University Website and Email

Prayer Halls

The Christ University library houses more than 2,50,000 books, 600 periodicals, 27

newspapers, 5000 CDs and DVDs. The library subscribes to 13 online databases

including the likes of Manupatra, JSTOR, LexisNexis and Westlaw and provides

campus wide access to these resources. Apart from the in-house processes of the

Library which are computerized and the library catalog being available online, it

houses around 300 computers to provide access to the internet for students and faculty.

Students use their registered numbers and passwords for accessing the internet, checking attendance, viewing progress reports, downloading hall

tickets and marks cards. Course material is accessed through the Learning Management System (LMS). The website also has campus radio, calendar

and web mail which are hosted from local servers on the campus. Every student is given an email-id which is used for all official communication.

The University has prayer halls, with a serene and calm atmosphere for those who wish

to spend time in silence, reflection and prayer.


Sports, Games, Health and Fitness

Cafeteria

The University has separate facilities for major sports like basketball, football, tennis,

volleyball, throwball and hockey. Intra-institution and inter-institution matches and

sports days give the students ample opportunities to exhibit sports talents and skills in

sporting events. Christ University also has a Gym and Fitness Centre used by students

and faculty.

The Kiosk in Block II and the Snack Bar in Block I provide easy access to students

seeking to refresh themselves with snacks during short breaks. The spacious Cafeteria

in the Auditorium Block and Fresheteria, provide healthy food at reasonable prices. The

University is also home to a number of kiosks run by well known food chains such as

Just Bake as well as the newly opened Waffle Express and Indian Coffee House. The Ivy

Hall and Gourmet provide the students ample space to relax or study with facilities

such as photocopying, snack and lunch counters and internet browsing.

Batch of 2016

The batch of 2016 is the sixth batch to complete the undergraduate programs at the School of Law, Christ University. Students of this batch have

successfully overcome all of the challenges before them and have come out in flying colours. Students have participated in various extracurricular

and co-curricular activities to supplement their academic pursuits.

This batch has been put through rigorous academic training at the School

of Law. Students study a total of sixty subjects over ten semesters for five

years. The students are trained by a team of able and qualified faculty

members. The School of Law has also been proud to host many eminent

personalities as guest faculty including the likes of Prof. Madhava Menon.

Students of the batch of 2016 have yearned for knowledge and have taken

initiatives to facilitate interactive debates and discussions within the

classroom as well as outside. Several students of this batch have contributed

to legal literature in the form of articles, case comments, research papers,

book reviews etc. which have been published in various national and

international journals and law reviews. Students have attended and

presented papers at several conferences and seminars around the world. Christ University also encourages students to take up various certificate

courses conducted by other departments within the university as well as by other universities and institutions. Several students of this batch possess

online certifications from organisations such as iPleaders, Rainmaker and Coursera. Interested students have also taken up the Company Secretary

Course organised by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India.


The School of Law has a total of nineteen committees. Each of these committees, under the able leadership of the students of the batch of 2016 and

their respective faculty coordinators have taken up various initiatives to further the cause of gaining practical experience and knowledge. Separate

organising committees were also constituted to conduct events such as the National Moot Court Competition, the SLCU Model United Nations, the

Pan India Philip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competitions and the 'National Conference on Constitutional Appointments: Vignettes and

Vicissitudes' as well as the internal rounds for various moot court, debating and other competitions. The leadership of the students of this batch as

members and volunteers for these committees has been of great help to the

institution in conducting such events.

The Christ University Law Journal (CULJ), ISSN 2278-4322 is a peer

reviewed academic publication which seeks to facilitate greater interest

and deeper insight in various fields of law among students, academicians

and legal scholars. School of Law has the honor of hosting several eminent

jurists including the likes of Hon'ble Mr. Justice AK Ganguly, Former Judge,

Supreme Court of India; Mr. Amarjit Singh Chandhiok, Additional Solicitor

General, Supreme Court of India; Padma Shri NR Madhava Menon,

Founder, National Law School of India University and Ms. Pinky Anand,

Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India on board the advisory panel for

this Journal.

The Legal Aid Committee conducted several legal aid awareness programs and a legal aid camp. The Litigation committee introduced the Bi-annual

E-Magazine, 'Lex Scripta - Penning the Change' which features articles by students ranging across various contemporary issues, internship

experiences of the students and other activities. The Advanced Criminal Law Studies Committee organised a Trial Advocacy Competition for the


students to get acquainted with the procedure of trial. The Sports Committee successfully conducted a bi-lateral tournament in association with the

National Law School of India, University, Bengaluru.

The Public Policy and Governance Committee presented recommendations to the Law Commission of India on Media Laws and Capital Punishment

as well as the M.C. Nanaih Committee on Sexual Harassment and Safety of Women and Children.

It has been the enviable tradition of the School of Law in presenting an annual Shakespearean drama. Under the guidance of Ms. Esther Yates,

students of the batch of 2016 have had the opportunity to be cast and crew in the staging of the immortal classic 'The Merchant of Venice' in the year

2013, 'Othello' in 2014 and 'Hamlet' in the year 2015. The cast and crew have been given special mentions of appreciation by many of the guests

present which include Hon'ble Mr. Justice MF Saldanha, a former judge of the High Court of Karnataka.

It gives the School of Law, Christ University immense pride to present the batch of 2016. This batch has endeavored to uphold the virtues of

excellence and service and is a testament to the core values, vision and mission of this institution.

Recruitment Process

The Placement Window at SLCU extends till the end of the academic year 2015- 2016. The Recruitment Coordination Committee under the

leadership of the Placement Coordinators are responsible for on- campus recruitment during this period. The Placement Window not only acts as an

interface between prospective employers and graduating students but also provides an opportunity to the recruiters to meet the faculty and students

on campus.

Recruiters are invited for the Pre Placement Talks and presentations to highlight the features of their organisation, job profile, remuneration, terms

and conditions of employment and other relevant information. Recruiters are urged to indicate their preferred dates for such talks to the

Recruitment Coordination Committee by Email at least one week in advance. The date, time and venue of such talks shall be determined by mutual

agreement between the RCC and the recruiter.

Recruiters are welcome to follow their own recruitment process with any number of stages which may include Group Discussions, Written Tests and

Personal Interviews. Organisations may also opt for telephonic interviews and interviews via video conferencing.

The RCC works to ensure that final recruitments are conducted in a fair and transparent manner so as to maximize the interest of both the students

and recruiters.


Rules

1. Recruiters interested in participating in the Recruitment Process shall register with the Recruitment Coordination Committee by filing the

Recruitment Registration Form.

2. Recruiters interested in conducting Pre-Placement Talks or presentations in order to interact with students shall contact the RCC at least

one week prior to the desired date for conducting such talks.

3. Recruiters may follow their own policies with respect to the Pre-Interview Screening.

4. In the event that the Recruiter has no procedure for Pre-Interview Screening, the Final Interview List shall contain the names of all students

interested in appearing for the interview.

5. Recruiters can follow their own policy with respect to the procedure of wait-listing applicants post the Pre-Interview Screening and/or the

Final Interview. However, Recruiters are requested to maintain a reasonable cap on the duration for wait-listing an applicant.

6. Recruiters shall be required to disclose offer made to the applicants and the same shall be communicated only through the RCC.

7. If an applicant receives an offer of employment through the recruitment process, he/she will be barred from any further participation in

the placement process.

8. The RCC shall be the only official authorized body of the School of Law, Christ University to formally approach and communicate with the

Recruiters in relation to the Recruitment Process.

9. Any decision taken by the RCC in relation to the Recruitment Process shall be final and binding on all parties.
