Dear Lord, we thank You for all we have been given, and for everyone

and every situation that has shaped our lives. Help us put into words the appreciation we have for our family, friends, and members that rec-ognizes their unique contributions, their efforts, and the gifts they share.

We are grateful for the blessings of our orga-nization’s leadership, wisdom, and knowledge gained through their experience and education. We pray that they accept the role as men-tors to bolster our confidence by pointing out our strengths and abilities.

May we be encouraged to stretch beyond our perceived limitations and realize our own self worth and strength. Help us to be patient and generous as we hold fast to the ideas of a growing organization. Amen.

Hello and Welcome Fall. Someone asked me recently why they join the Ameri-can Legion. My response was, “We are a family of Veterans who have served with purpose and commitment. We now volunteer to serve others who have served. We

are committed to help each other in time of need. We contribute our time and money because we care. Like families we sometimes disagree, but we always come together for the greater cause.

Thank you all for a GREAT Labor Day Picnic and Annual Car Show. Wow, we continue to have such large turn outs for our special events. They could not have been successful without the support of our volun-teers, staff, bartenders, and contributors.

Please refer to our calendars for upcoming special events and kitchen servings. I look forward to seeing everyone who has renewed their membership at the Early Bird Dinner on October 21st. We’ll be enjoying entrees of roast turkey or pork with mashed potatoes, peas and carrots, plus salad and dessert.

Veterans Day Saturday November 11th is THE DAY to thank a Veteran. Remember, some served when the country didn’t care. For God and Country….See ya at the Post.

August and September were great months for the Riders. We had four successful Friday Dinners, a fantastic Motorcycle Run, and great riding weather. We want to shout out to our retired member Brad Hall who stepped up for us and relieved me so I

could get my daughter married. Thank you Brad.Frank Henson put on a motorcycle run that took us from the Post to Sitting Bull in Morrison, then to Cross-

roads in Pine Junction, over to 2 Bears outside Black Hawk, then to Golden and Post 21, and finally back to our Post for some burgers and dogs. We even made a few bucks for the Vets.

We presented our Annual Riders Scholarship to Megan Sedgewick, who will use the $1,000 award to study nursing at Front Range Community College. Congratulations and good luck, Megan.

Thank to everyone at the post for supporting the Riders in everything we do.September is in the books and fall is in the air. Winter is around the corner and I still

hate that fact. The Sons had a very suc-cessful fundraiser for the John F. Kennedy

High School Honor Guard on September 17th with a record 247 meals served during the Annual Car Show. Kudo’s to Bill Ra-dunz, and Todd Whitton for the work in the kitchen.

The Car Show drew 107 entries and many visitors to view the great selection of Hot Rods, Classics, Vettes, and Customs along with the nitro guys, who always draw a crowd.

NFL games are on each Sunday so come down to the Post and have a few to help support the Post.

The Early Bird Dinner is FREE to members who paid dues before October. Remember, anyone can volunteer for anything that goes on. I know help can be hard to find for events and it doesn’t have to be your organization you lend a hand to.

The Bake Sale at the Car Show was a huge suc-

cess. Thank you to the volunteers who worked the table and to all of you who donated the baked goods.

Donation jars for the Auxiliary Emer-gency Fund (AEF) are still in place at the Post.

Nancy Chandler will be donating a patriotic-themed hand made quilt for a raffle. It is an oversized twin. We’ll be selling tickets for $1 each and we’ll let you know when the raffle starts.

Remember that we will have a Special Dinner, instead of burgers, on the 4th Wednesday each month. In September it was a Reuben casserole. We’re planning on beef stew for October.

Finally, don’t forget Veterans Day, Saturday, November 11th. No breakfast will be served so the Auxiliary can use the kitchen to prepare and serve Spaghetti Dinner with meatballs and sausage with salad and garlic toast from 11:00 a.m. all the way to 7:00 p.m. The annual dinner is FREE to Veteran members of our Post. The cost for others is only $7, or $4 for children under 10.

Many projects have been completed this past month. Chuck Elsen and Les Metcalf repainted the gun in front of the Post with original OD Green paint. The kitchen pantry has a new floor thanks primarily to Bill Beard and Doug Schwab. Both Bill and Doug

donated many hours in getting it done, and they did a great job. Thanks also to Mark Ward for doing the nec-essary plumbing repairs. Many of the other members involved in this project include Dave Potvin, Glad Pot-vin, Kathy Schwab, Chuck Elsen, Randy Baria, David Clinger, Mitch Heer, and Rocky Mountain. Thank you all for giving of your time. All we ask is that everyone does their part in keeping it clean and orderly.

At our last member picnic on Labor Day we had 258 people in attendance and our door monitors collected $400. Without the following volunteer door monitors we would not have had the success we did: Vern and Sheri Schmitt, Bill Radunz, David Clinger, Mike Makofske, Beth Hall, Megan Blanc, Dee Yurko, Marilynn Anderson, Faye Okeneske, Tina Montoya, Joe and Fran Bowers, Doug Powell, Ron Vanderhaar, and Linda Quinlan.

Our cooks for the day were Jody Marcotte, Brad Hall, Sue Clinger, and Bill Torrez with Jim Gibson do-ing his usual awesome job of slicing tomatoes, onions, etc. Thanks to all of you.

Beer donations were made by Joe and Fran Bowers, Ken and Connie Stark, Max Thompson, and the SAL. Soda and water were all donated by the Auxiliary. Thank you all for your generosity.

Beginning on Veterans Day, November 11th, qualified Veterans will be able to shop online at the Veterans PX. Go to VetVerify.org to

see if you qualify to use this benefit.Veterans can now pre-qualify for burial at a

National Cemetery. Use the form you can get by Googling “Pre-Eligible Military Death Form.” Find and use VA Form 40-10007.pdf. Pre-quali-fying can save your family from the process. Pre-qualifying at a National Cemetery does not include burial site selection.
