The Hong Kong MAKE Award 2009 has been successfully held last year. It has attracted organisations from different sectors to participate the Award, including government departments, accounting firm, public utilities, hotel, SMEs, etc.

Miss Eunjung Lee, Knowledge Management Senior of Centre for Advanced knowledge Management, Samsung SDS was invited to give a talk for KM seminar participants to share their successful story about their outstanding performance in delivering enterprise value based on customer knowledge, and transforming enterprise knowledge into shareholder value.

The Hong Kong MAKE AwardInaugurated in 1998, the Most Admired Knowledge Enterprise (MAKE) Award was conducted by Teleos in association with the KNOW network every year. It consists of the annual Global MAKE Award and similar studies at regional/national levels including Asia, Europe, India, Indonesia, Japan and North America. The winners of the Global MAKE Award are selected by an expert panel comprising of business executives from Fortune 500 companies, leading knowledge-management practitioners as well as intellectual capital experts.

The Hong Kong MAKE Award was first introduced in 2008 and hosted by the Knowledge Management Research Centre of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The purpose of this award is not just to acknowledge the commitment in Knowledge Management (KM), but also to bring public recognition to those organisations that have achieved outstanding performance in KM practices.

• TheTop3WinnersoftheHongKongMAKEAward2010willautomaticallybequalifiedto be the finalists of the Asian MAKE Award 2010, which is a higher level of Teleos’ MAKE Award for the Asian Organisations.

Application RequirementsAny organisation with an operation in Hong Kong is eligible to apply. The applicant’s name (i.e. the name of the organisation) stated in the application form will be the name to be displayed in the supplement/website/other printed materials as an announcement of the award/participant list.

Applicants should complete the application online and enclose a KM report covering its KM activities and outcomes taking place in Hong Kong.

Judging Criteria and Evaluation ProcessA panel of well-known senior business executives and leading knowledge management experts will be formed to select the winners of the Hong Kong MAKE Award 2010.

The organisation once applied will go through two rounds of evaluation. In the first round, the panel will assess the KM competence level of the organisation with reference to the eight knowledge performance dimensions. The short-listed orgnisations will enter the second round of evaluation and be invited to conduct a case presentation to the panel who will THEN decide on the WINNERS OF THE AWARD.

1. Creating an enterprise knowledge-driven culture 2. Developing knowledge workers through senior management leadership3. Deliveringknowledge-basedproducts/services/solutions4. Maximizing the intellectual capital of the organisation5. Creating and sustaining an environment of knowledge sharing6. Creating and sustaining an enterprise culture of continuous learning 7. Delivering value based on customer knowledge8. Managing knowledge to generate shareholder (or societal) value

The Hong Kong Police Force, the Top Winner of the Hong Kong MAKE Award 2009, is also one of the 2009 Asian MAKE Award Winners.

Winning enterprises were invited to share their KM experiences and journey in the “Knowledge Management Seminar” in Hong Kong to our participants.

KMProjectAward (Outstanding KM Project Award 2010)

Outstanding Knowledge Management (KM) Project Award

Apart from the Hong Kong MAKE Award which is conferred to enterprises and organisations on their overall achievements in the successful implementation of corporate-wide KM programmes, the Outstanding KM Project Award from the Knowledge Management Research Centre will also be introduced this year to individuals or teams who have designed and launched KM projects successfully in specific areas of an organisation. These include applicationsofknowledgemanagementtechniquesandprinciplesineitheroneormoreofthefollowings:

(i) Implementation of information or knowledge systems to capture and retain enterprise knowledge

(ii) Launching enterprise portals, collaborative platforms or decision support systems

(iii) Managing or reporting of intellectual capital and assets

(iv) Collecting market, business or societal intelligence

(v) Development of e-learning systems for corporate training

(vi) Building knowledge team, communities or centres of excellence

(vii) Developing knowledge leadership, fostering knowledge sharing culture or organisational learning

(viii) Others not included in the above

Applicants can be from an individual or a team of the same or different organisations. This award is to give recognitiontoapplicantswhohavedemonstratedsufficientmasteryoftheKMtechniquesintheirprojecttofulfilltheir company or business goals.

A judging panel with local and overseas experts will be formed on the applications based on the Delphi model.

The applications will go through one round of assessment. The judging panel will assess the applications based on thewrittenreportaccordingtothefollowingassessmentcriterion:

Outstanding KM Project Award: 31 May, 2010

Application The Application of the Outstanding KM Project Award 2010 and the Hong Kong MAKE Award 2010 is mutually exclusive.

For HK MAKE Award: HK$6,000 (include 2 free admission tickets to the KM seminar - sharing sessions of the winning organisations).

For Outstanding KM Project Award: HK$4,000.
