Abbey have recently been working with International Food Service Equipment to produce an
exciting yet comfortable space for the restaurant at Knights Garden Centre in Chelsham
Case studyKnights Garden Centre,Chelsham
Knights Garden Centre required a new restaurant
which was welcoming to their elderly clientele whilst
still having a modern fresh appearance.
We supplied a full refurbishment including our expertly
crafted bench seating upholstered in a vibrant tumeric
colour fabric with contrasting grey faux leather with
a feature lawn green section in what was called the
Parisian style area of the restaurant.
We supplied our new Yugo Iron chairs that matched
the modern rustic vibe the owners were looking for
as well as our popular painted Farmhouse Slatback
chairs.
Besides the furniture Abbey also supplied horizontal
rustic timber wall cladding as well as the vertical
cladded dwarf wall seen as you enter the room
produced from authentic reclaimed scaffold boards.
Our cladded division screens continued the rustic
appearance into the main restaurant .
The client is exceptionally pleased with the overall
result

Planters Garden Centre asked Abbey to create three distinct styles within their new 300 cover restaurant development. The first area was designed to create a separate welcoming environment for dogs and their owners. The second area was developed as a warm and cosy informal café area to maximise morning and afternoon trade. The third, final and largest area was dedicated to the main restaurant, designed to cope with the very high volume of lunches and meals provided throughout the
day.
The dog owners area was generally themed around a farmhouse kitchen to make the environment comfortable, informal and welcoming. Abbey built a genuine farmhouse style kitchen fitted with an AGA which not only complimented the theme but had the additional practical use of a bowl storage and water dispense point for our four legged friends. Old style settles were used together with a large central solid Oak farmhouse table complete with carabiner clips as a holding device for dogs. The main restaurant was furnished in two
styles.
Wicker style chairs and white marble tables are located toward the patio area to provide an Edwardian conservatory feel and solid wood chairs and circular bench seating booths were used throughout the rest of the restaurant for comfortable feature seating. The area was very large and needed division between the restaurant and service area so Abbey designed some natural willow movable screens as a
practical solution.

Informal comfortable furniture was used in the café area such as wing sided lounge chair and tub chairs combined with drum stools and two seat sofas to create small seating groups, particu-larly around the log burner. A long section of bench seating was also added to provide a visual break between the service counter and to bolster up the cover capacity at lunchtime with this inte-gral soft look. Abbey also provided the painted cladding to the front service counter and cutlery
pick up points.
The overall effect has been very successful and the positive effect has exceeded expectations in
all respects.

Abbey have recently been working with International Food Service Equipment to produce a formal and executive space for the Green House room at the Kings Fund in London
Case studyThe Green House, Kings Fund, London
The Kings Fund required a new restaurant which was
able to be adaptable for both daytime use as a formal
café with a crisp clean appearance as well as an
evening function venue for their corporate clientele.
The main criteria was to bring comfort with a refi ned,
modern style to suit the formal building and create a
fresh and inviting space.
Contrasting upholstery colours were used to create
a sharp appearance and our Askew Armchair was
selected for maximum comfort for both dining and
longer meetings. The chairs combined with diamond
matched walnut and wafer thin solid black laminate
table tops.
The orange Barcelona chairs upholstered in durable
faux suede contrast well against the bespoke made
sofas and provides lounge style comfort for longer
stays whilst the general colour scheme combined to
harmonise with the colours of the counter front.
The client is exceptionally pleased with the overall
result.

Zaap is the latest to open in the Leeds Grand Arcade, a unique and exciting new eatery that brings the sights,
sounds and tastes of a Thai street market to the British high street.
Case studyZaap, Leeds
Zaap is brand new to the market, a Thai street food
concept which is fantastic value for money, loaded with
atmosphere and a great healthy place to eat.
The client required a street food concept which looked
authentic and was easy to operate with maximum table
versatility.
Abbey worked with the client to provide all of the furniture
to compliment the overall design. The scaffold base
tables with rustic timber tops were made specifi cally for
the job and fi nished in a special wood aging solution
to appear completely authentic. Other table tops were
stained and painted in the three colours of the Thai fl ag
and Zaap logo, rubbed through for an aged look and
sealed with a hygienic lacquer. Floor fi xed tables were
fi tted into the genuine Tuk Tuks and the heights adapted
to achieve a perfect dining height.
Multi coloured metal chairs and stools were used
together with vibrant looking urban vintage style chairs
for a random mixed appearance. To complete the look
we also made some authentic looking Singha beer
crate stools to compliment the waiting area.
The fi rst few weeks of trading have more than exceeded
the expectations of the owners and there are plans to
open many more.

RARE, are committed to serving the very best of breed and do not believe in compromising those values. Making a restaurant in Leeds unlike

The client required the dining experience to be unique so the furniture had to play its part in the experience by offering a high level
style. Using the best quality leathers Abbey
with an additional head roll in natural organic green colours, the restaurant chairs in contrasting mustard and grey fabrics which worked beautifully against the natural
brickwork.
able to lock several tables together to form a decorative oval table for larger groups, so
three of the table and split one of the round tables in two, to be adaptable to lock on either end to form an oval shape – the result was ideal and this is now the most versatile
and popular table in the restaurant.

The restoration of Cardigan Castle is the culmination of many years of hard work and fundraising undertaken by the Cadwgan Buildings Preservation Trust. In late 2013, Abbey were invited to tender for the supply of furniture in the soon to be constructed restaurant and bar. The space was designed to take advantage of the fantastic commanding views of the River Teifi and the Castle Gardens by constructing a modern extension with high ceilings and long window walls.
Abbey suggested fresh colours that would take advantage of the abundance of light together with natural materials such as slate, oak and zinc. After the success of the design for the restaurant, Abbey were asked to design and build the bar. In contrast to the main restaurant, the lounge bar was positioned in an old Georgian house with low ceilings and a single window. We suggested warm colours and a compact space saving design for the room and bar to better suit the environment and create a cosy yet spacious interior.
Case studyCardigan Castle
From our work in the restaurant and bar, the Trust asked us to provide design and furnishings for further areas in the complex including the seminar, events/wedding venues, gallery spaces and the Castle gift shop. The gift shop represented a fantastic opportunity for us to develop some unique furniture pieces to house the many local crafts and souvenirs available in the shop. We developed two distinct styles to reflect the long history of the castle - the medieval style shelving units, low display cabinets and rustic timber cladding were designed to be reminiscent of the castle’s original incarnation as a defensive castle. The classic panelled retail cabinets echoed the style of the grand Georgian House built on the Castle grounds in the 18th century.
The newly re-opened Cardigan Castle is proving a great success offering a fantastic heritage attraction, restaurant, accommodation and events venue.

The goal for the owners of the Blunsdon House Hotel was to create a versatile dining space that could also be used for functions. We created a luxurious atmosphere using modern furniture and vibrant colours. Our wave shaped bench seating fl ows around the curve of the round Oast house creating individual areas. The large central dining table symmetrically fi lls the dining space for larger parties.
