While there are sure to be some differences in today’s Chapter com-pared to the one you remember, a fraternity continues to provide a

place in which to develop skills essential for success in today’s competitive world. Our Chapter House at 459 North Razorback Road played a pivotal role in creating the atmosphere and opportunity for the nurturing of social and academic skills so vital to a young man’s development. Over the years, the house provided a comfortable and safe environment for hundreds of our members and was a central place where young men can interact, learn,

and bond. We now have an opportunity to build a modern Chapter House that is even safer and more conducive to the AGR model of fraternity life.

It is imperative that all AGR Brothers, from yesterday to today, bond to-gether to help rebuild the Alpha Iota Chapter House. As a home away from home for the next generations of young men, our house will serve as a living and learning center for its members. If others are to benefit from the Alpha Iota experience, we must use this opportunity to rebuild our home and prepare for the future of AGR.

ALPHA IOTA’S PROUD HISTORYFor nearly 80 years, the Alpha Iota Chapter of Alpha Gamma Rho

Fraternity has been an important part of the University of Arkansas. Since our founding in 1934, Alpha Iota has played a significant role in the personal and professional development of its members. Many of our

more than 900 alumni have distinguished themselves in their respective professions, their personal lives and within their communities. Much of this success is due to the lessons we learned outside of the classroom in AGR meetings and activities.

THE CHAPTER HOUSE

THE NEED TO BUILDA new Chapter House will serve as the living and learning center for

future AGRs and as a proud symbol of our vision of excellence. En-suring the academic success of our members and recruiting quality men must be top priorities of our alumni and undergraduates. In order to achieve these goals and remain competitive on campus, we must offer a safe, mod-ern, and attractive facility. We must commit to the following:

STUDENT SAFETY. Creating a safe living environment for our Brothers living in the house and their guests will be a top priority. Housing code en-forcement will require mandatory life-safety items, such as fire-rated doors and a sprinkler system throughout the house. Fortunately, these standards and precautions enhance an individual’s chance of surviving a fire by 97%. TECHNOLOGY. Study space and academic needs have changed. A col-lege living facility must include up-to-date technology and multiple elec-

trical outlets in each room. The need for quiet, well-lit, and comfortable personal and group study space within the Chapter House is necessary for our members to compete academically.

COMPETITION. Today, providers of student housing are aggressively responding to competition by making significant investments in upgrading or completely replacing their facilities. Students and their parents demand more for their housing dollars and they insist on more space and privacy, along with other amenities. As a result of this campaign, Alpha Iota will be able to compete with other fraternity housing, as well as a multitude of residence hall and apartment options, to recruit the quality men the Chapter needs.

The Arkansas Alumni Chapter of AGR has engaged the professional services of Modus Studio, an architecture firm based in Fayetteville,

to design our new Chapter House. The aim is a high-quality facility that will provide a safe and attractive home for future generations of AGRs. In all areas, the architect has been instructed to address mandatory building and fire code requirements. In addition, we have placed a special emphasis on the use of practical and durable building materials, finishes, and fixtures to withstand heavy use over a number of years.

A team of Alpha Iota alumni are currently working to secure a suitable building site in Fayetteville. The goal is a one-acre property within walking distance of campus or on the bus line. Once a site has been secured, the architect will develop conceptual plans and a rendering.

We anticipate building a 10,000-square-foot facility that meets the ev-er-changing needs of today’s students. This state-of-the-art facility will sleep 25 men. The architect has developed an estimate for this project total-ing approximately $2.35 million. The fundraising goal for the Rebuilding on a Proud Past campaign is $1 million. Based on our financial calculations through a professional pro forma, we have concluded that the facility can support debt service of $1.35 million.

Beyond the construction of the new house, the Arkansas Alumni Chapter is committed to a financial and managerial plan to ensure the Chapter’s viability and vitality going forward. The plans highlighted in this brochure help illustrate and explain the intent to create a Chapter House that expands and enhances the educational and personal experiences offered by mem-bership in AGR.

OUR PLAN

We urge your thoughtful consideration of this plan. You are the only one who can place a value on your membership in

Alpha Gamma Rho and the lifelong experiences gained at Alpha Iota —on the friendships you made, on the development of your values and principles, and on the many ways the Fraternity enhanced your college years. Remember that each of us benefited from the generos-ity, work, and sacrifice of those AGRs who went before us.

Our investment in Alpha Gamma Rho will preserve our legacy and secure our future on the University of Arkansas campus. Today, perhaps more than ever, college fraternities play a relevant role in shaping the lives of young men by providing a small, group-living environment that promotes a solid educational foundation, fosters group and individual achievement, and develops valuable social and leadership skills in an ever-changing world.

The commitment we make today cannot be underestimated—it will have a ripple effect on the lives of future AGRs for years to come. Our undergraduate men have made a commitment to perpetuate the values, programs, and traditions that have benefited the lives of AGRs over the years. The alumni volunteer leadership is commit-ted to this major effort and prepared to manage the new property through appropriate policies and procedures.

We all enjoyed the home and brotherhood Alpha Gamma Rho pro-vided during our years at Arkansas. With your support, AGR will continue to evolve and become the leading fraternity on campus. Now, we ask you, the Alpha Iota alumni, to lead the way, support the financial challenge associated with this project, and invest in our future.
