KCC is considering (not decide yet) giving priority to new operators in 2.1 ㎓ band auction which is scheduled to be held later this year.Several MVNOs are possible contenders for the wireless bandwidth other than 3 mobile operators, which are all announcing competition for the 20 ㎒ bandwidth of the 2.1 ㎓ range.

3 operators, KT, SKT and LG U+, are also wanted in that frequency band as they could be used to provide 3G services as well as Long Term Evolution technology.

1.8 ㎓ band is also expected to be up for auction together with 2.1 ㎓ band.

KCC is also discussing what procedures should be followed if new operators turn up to take home the frequency license, according to a KCC official.KCC is projected to offer multiple plans between June and July for them to lay out the rules of action before releasing the mobile frequency bands for sale in the market later this year.KCC has plan to offer plans for the five KCC commissioners between June and July for them to lay out the rules of action before releasing the wireless frequency bands for sale in the market later this year.

5. MVNO plan in Korea5. MVNO plan in Korea

KCC announced support measures on May 2011 for MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operators) so that they can release services that are 20% cheaper than what is now available.SKT will provide the MVNOs with mobile phones until June 2012.

SKT also agreed to help the MVNOs, which plan to launch their services beginning in July, offer 15 supplementary services like video calls, MMS and the caller identification blocking services.

MVNO’s assistants such as SKT will assist in establishing the necessary facilities for the new network operators and operators have a extension of time to pay off all costs until the end of 2012.
