With the arrival of spring, I am always inspired with a new energy and fi nd myself ready to put my best foot forward. I pull out my dusty running shoes, crack open the “clean eating” cookbook and make a list of projects for myself. I also do the same practices for my home. The nice weather and longer days are great motivations to get our homes cleaned up and out of hibernation mode. Both spring and summer are undoubtedly the best time to do any renovations or exterior projects. Let’s take this opportunity to talk about the exterior appearance of your home. Like any other fi rst meeting, it is this initial impression that will “make it, or break it” for your home!
When you are looking at the curb appeal of your home, there are many factors to consider… Colour, architectural details and landscaping are just a few. The biggest bang for your buck is your paint scheme and exterior treatments, so you want to make sure that you do it properly. Instead of painting the
house just one color, why not come up with a scheme that highlights the features and sets it apart (subtly) from the neighbours. Outline the windows, doors and peaks with a crisp trim color to make them standout. Hide any of the fl aws
or eyesores, like drains and downspouts with a complementing color that will visually send them to the background and make them blend in. Consider the surroundings of your home

Consider your neighbourhood when making exterior decisions. While you want to stand out from the crowd, you also want to make sure that your home integrates nicely into the surroundings. Unlike an interior space, you are not the only one that has to live with your choices. Everyone in the neighbourhood is affected by your poor choice.

We saw 393 single family homes in the
region sell in the month of March
We saw 393 single family homes in the region sell in the month of March. The last time we saw numbers this high in March was in 2010 when 414 single family homes sold. Though we see sales numbers have increased compared to last year, we see fewer active listings for sale compared to last year.
There were 3,769 active listings for sale on the Multiple Listing Service® at the end of March, 6.9% fewer than the 4,050 active listings in March 2014.
The Multiple Listing Service® Home Price Index benchmark value for a single family home in the Victoria Core this time last year was $560,500. The benchmark value for the same home this month has increased by 1.64% to $569,700.
Why the increase in activity? We expect the market to be busy in the spring - real estate has a seasonal trend. Interesting this year was that the momentum we saw in the market over the course of 2014 has continued to increase. Consumer confidence in local real estate appears to be high, and it’s likely that buyers are taking advantage of low interest rates.
