And if we think more carefully about the meaning of our salvation, we shall realise that we are indeed liv- ing and true temples of God. God does not dwell only in things made by human hands, nor in homes of wood and stone, but rather he dwells principally in the soul made according to his own image and fashioned by his own hand. Therefore, the apostle Paul says: The temple of God is holy, and you are that temple. When Christ came, he banished the devil from our hearts, in order to build in them a tem- ple for himself. Let us therefore do what we can with his help, so that our evil deeds will not deface that temple. For whoever does evil, does injury to Christ. As I said earlier, before Christ redeemed us, we were the house of the devil, but afterward, we merited the privilege of being the house of God. God himself in his loving mercy saw fit to make of us his own home. My fellow Christians, do we wish to celebrate joyfully the birth of this temple? Then let us not destroy the living temples of God in ourselves by works of evil. I shall speak clearly, so that all can understand. Whenever we come to church, we must prepare our hearts to be as beautiful as we expect this church to be. Do you wish to find this basilica immaculately clean? Then do not soil your soul with the filth of sins. Do you wish this basilica to be full of light? God too wishes that your soul be not in darkness, but that the light of good works shine in us, so that he who dwells in the heavens will be glorified. Just as you enter this church building, so God wishes to enter into your soul, for he promised: I shall live in them, I shall walk through their hearts. HIS GRACE ARCHBISHOP JULIO MURAT CONFIRMS

SIXTY CANDIDATES There were jubilations and ululations on Sunday

October 23, 2016 at Christ the Redeemer Parish during the Sacrament of Confirmation administered on 60 candidates by APOSTOLIC NUNCIO TO ZAMBIA AND MALAWI, HIS GRACE ARCHBISHOP JULIO MURAT. During the colourful event, relics of St John Paul II which were received by the Nuncio’s office in Lusa-ka were brought to Makeni Parish, amid singing and dancing performed by the Buomba group and Stella girls as Taonga Zamiwe Chipeta handed the said relics (residue) to Deacon David Banda. Archbishop Murat commended Deacon Banda for knowing his job. He said Deacon David Banda worked well and knew his work, amid clapping and ululations as Dea-con Banda smiled.

And during the homily which was about the tax collector, His Grace Archbishop Julio Murat unknow-ingly pointed at our Parish Treasurer, Mr Fergus Nkowane and his Vice Parish Treasurer, Ms Cham-base Chinyonga (seated at left site of the stage) as he mentioned the word tax collector, to the surprise of some parishioners who knew the two parish treas-urers to be responsible for collecting Church funds at the parish.

And during the Confirmation Rite, which was the main event of the day, some newly confirmed Chris-tians were lifted shoulder high by their God-parents and parents as some preferred to handshakes, amid ululations, drumming and dancing while choir mem-bers kept singing heart-touching songs.

The Parish Priest Fr Krzysztof Mróz warned the newly confirmed Christians to be wary of “crocodiles” of the world that would distract their Christianity. Fr Mróz urged them to pray constantly as St John Paul II used to pray the Novena to the Holy Spirit on daily basis. He advised them (newly confirmed) to be pushed by the Spirit of God always.

Giving his vote of thanks on behalf other confirm-ands, Mr Vincent M. Mwitumwa eulogized the Nun-cio for finding time to come to Makeni Parish for the Sacrament of Confirmation, amid his busy schedule.

Mr Mwitumwa also thanked Fr Mróz, Fr Mabvuto, God-parents, and Parents, Catechists, among oth-ers for their support. He urged the Congregants present to pray for the newly confirmed Christians to know and love God always.

And during luncheon at St Joseph Hall, His Grace Archbishop Julio Murat said he had confirmed a lot of Teresas and Peters during the Sacrament of Con-firmation than any other names. Archbishop Murat also told some members of the Parish Council Exec-utive who sat with him at the high table that the event was well organized from the beginning to the end, to the delight of the members. The Parish Council Chairperson Brig Gen Harrison Phiri (Rtd) presented an eye-catching gift to the guest of hon-our, amid a Chewa song: Alendo athu lero, moni alendo.(2x) Takondwera pakuti taonana, Mulun-gu ndiye akudalitseni pochokera kwanuko, kwanuko, moni alendo, amid clapping and ulula-tions from the audience. Prior to the Mass, the only role that Brig Gen. Harrison Phiri played was to invite the Parish Priest, Fr Mróz to welcome the quest of honour to the event.

The procession with the Nuncio began from the parish priests’ house in the company of Priests, Parish Council Executives, St John Paul II Execu-tives, Altar Boys, Stella Girls, Buomba Group, Read-ers, among others. Two members of Parish Council executive and the other two members from St John Paul II executive were tasked with the responsibility of pall-bearers carrying Taonga Zamiwe Chipeta who was holding a vessel of relics of St John Paul II.

The event was spiced by beautiful singing by the combined Nyanja Main, English Main, Youth choirs and Buomba as the immaculately dressed Stella girls danced to the rhythm.

The parish priest Fr Mróz wholeheartedly thanked all SCCs, Lay groups/Movements, Liturgical Com-mittee, Councils, among others for the support ren-dered before, during and after the event.

Mrs Malama Ntwanga was assigned with the responsibility of director of ceremonies at the lively event.

CORRECTION On page three (3) of our Sunday October 23, 2016 Newsletter Publication, we erroneously spelt the name of the late Mr Bill Mufana, the husband of Mrs Margaret Mufana of St Augustine SCC as Mr Billy Mufana. It has come to our attention that the correct

name should read the late Mr Bill Mufana and not Billy Mufana. Mr Billy Mufana is the son to the Mufanas who is still alive. We regret the mix up of names and the inconvenience caused to the Mufana family.
