    1. Define Chemistry- Study of the composition, structure, and properties of matter,

the processes that mater undergoes, and the energy changes that accompany these

    processes.

    2. 6 branches of study in chemistry

    a. Organic Chemistry-the study of most carbon containing compounds

    b. Inorganic Chemistry- the study of non organic substances.

    c. Physical chemistry- study of property and changes of matter and their

    relation to energy

    d. Analytical chemistry-identification of the components and composition of materials

    e. Biochemistry- the study of substances and processes occurring in living

    things

    f. Theoretical chemistry-use of mathematics and computers to understand

principles behind observed chemical behavior and to design and predict

    properties of new compounds.

    3. Compare and contrast basic research, applied research, and technological

    development.

    a. Basic research is carried out for the sake of increasing knowledge.

    b. Applied research is carried out to solve a problem

    c. Technological development typically involves the production and use of

products that improve our quality of life.

    4. Computers have become a HUGE part of my life. There is no need to spend long

periods of time flipping through pages of a dictionary or glossary. Instead, the

world wide web is a quick and easy way to gather all the information anyone

could ever need. It makes projects easier, communicating easier, and researching

    a lot more enjoyable.
