Reading Express – A Model Franchise
About the Express
The 2011 season marks a new beginning for the
Reading Express. The professional indoor football team
has joined the increasingly-popular Indoor Football League (IFL). This is the next frontier
for a team that won the 2009 AIFA National Championship.
The team began play in 2006 and immediately found success on the field. Division Championships were
won in four of the team’s first five years. Their impressive 64-20 record during that span also drove
traffic to the gate. The Express have built up a significant fan base in Reading and Berks County, and
have drawn over 4,000 fans per game over the past few years.
This interest is led by the nature of professional indoor football. The
Reading Express consistently tout a number of local players on its
roster. This talent comes from high schools such as Reading High
and colleges such as Kutztown. Combine that with a team that’s
locally-owned and operated by Berks Fire Water Restorations, Inc.,
and it’s easy to see how the Reading Express are a true community
champion.
The Reading Express take its community tie very seriously. Express football games are a great night out
for families, with tickets starting at just $8. And now, the Express are in the process of developing
great community programs that go beyond the game. The Reading Express also provides a great sports
marketing platform for Berks County companies looking to separate themselves from the competition.
Championship Team
The highlight in the Reading Express’ historical
record is the 2009 AIFA National Championship.
The Express beat the Wyoming Cavalry 64-42 in Casper, Wyo.,
to win the title. It was the first national sports championship for
the city of Reading.
The Express’ success both on the field and off has made the
organization one of the most-respected mid-market sports
franchises in the country. That success has propelled the team
to join the growing, stable and national Indoor Football League.
The Express will begin play in the IFL in 2011.
Beyond the Game
The Reading Express is embracing its position as a
community champions in Reading and Berks County.
The Express are currently developing exciting community programs to engage its fans and area residents.
Junior Junction Hip Hop Crew: The Express announced a new
dance initiative for the 2011 season. The youth program that is
open to kids ages 6-16. It features two components: instructional
clinics for all and a Junior Junction dance team comprised of the
most-talented performers in Berks County. In addition to
performing at Express home games, the Junior Junction dance
team will also have the chance to participate in parades,
community appearances and other team functions.
Details are still being ironed out, but are some other community programs in the works:

Fan Appreciation Night has always been successful
for the Reading Express. The organization has used
the special event to partner with its fans on unique and
exciting cause marketing efforts.
One of the most-successful events was the Wal-mart Prize Raffle on June 14, 2008. As the game night
sponsor, Wal-mart unified the fans in noise by giving out Thunderstick noisemakers to the first 2,000 fans.
Wal-mart also leveraged its sponsorship by raffling off 9 great prizes, with all the proceeds going to The
Children’s Miracle Network.
Prizes included:
The raffle was such a great success that The Children’s Miracle Network was presented with a check for
$6,000 at the end of the game.
As for getting Express fans to rally behind Wal-mart, the game sponsorship drew a solid return on the
investment. For the month of June, Wal-mart reported a sales record at Store #2614. The $10,100,487.00
shattered a previous mark of about $500,000. For the week of the game, Store #2614 was the top
performing store in the entire company (out of 3,850 stores), with total sales at $2,627,768.00.

Case Study
Berks • Fire • Water Restorations, Inc.™ has sponsored
Fire Fighter Appreciation Night for the past four years.
The night has gotten bigger and better each year! It is important for Berks • Fire • Water Restorations,
Inc.™ to maintain communications with the Fire Fighters in our region and to have meaningful
interactions with the more than 500 Fire Fighters in attendance would take endless man hours.
Throughout the evening, the main focus is to honor the Fire Fighter’s service by giving their company a
night out to build camaraderie. The event includes:
•Special Reception in the Coca-Cola Lounge
for Fire Fighters and their families.
•Fire Company Motorcycle Brigade
•Company Honor Guard
•Fire Engines
•Fire Safety PSAs
•Video Tributes
Having a Ball: An exciting part of every game is watching the craziness
as fans catch footballs that are thrown or kicked into the stands. The
Berks • Fire • Water Restorations, Inc.™ logo has been placed on the
Reading Express game balls for the last four seasons.
This logo placement works as we have been called for two fires in
the past two years. When the company arrived at its clients’ homes, it
was rewarding to see the logo on a Reading Express football being proudly displayed in their
home. When disaster struck, Berks • Fire • Water Restorations, Inc.™ was the first name they thought of.
The Indoor Football League (IFL) is a team-
owned organization featuring the nation’s
strongest professional football league played indoors.
With nearly a half-million fans coming to IFL games each season,
the real heart beat in what the league is right in the stands.
In the 2010 season, the league boasted 26 teams in 15 states, with franchises from Alaska to Virginia and
as far south as Texas. The 2011 season promises to be an exciting year for the IFL, with several new
teams joining the ranks.
One of the great things about the IFL is that the league is
firmly planted on the path to the NFL for aspiring professional
players. The IFL has an existing track record of developing
players to be successful in upper outdoor leagues, including
the popular NFL, the well-respected Canadian League, and
the fledgling United Football League.
The league is led by Commissioner Tommy Benizio, who
brings over 15 years of experience in sport management.
He has worked in merchandising, public relations,
marketing and management in the ECHL, ACHL, CHL, WPHL,
af2 and the IFL.
