Remember the importance of pre-reading activities

I. Children’s Books as part of your lessons!

1. Listen to the story out-loud in class.

2. Homework: read the story and illustrate it.

Provide a list of “quotes” for students to select and

use with their illustrations: “this soup is hot!”, etc.

Children’s books for out-loud reading practice

Read in groups: each student reads a part of the text to the others. After each section, students discuss what they understood from that section.

Read on film for a “digital library” collection
