Reading And Phonics Mission: 30 mins
Today your reading mission is to read the text below and answer the questions that follow and then complete the phonics challenge on the next page
Felicity Aston
In January 2012, Felicity Aston, a brave British woman,
became the first person to ski across Antarctica without
getting help from kites or machines. She was the first
woman to ski across the continent by herself.
Felicity first went to Antarctica when she was 23 to work as
a scientist. She completed lots of expeditions and
adventures including going across Greenland, competing in
a race to the North Pole, and leading women from all
around the world to the South Pole.
Her journey across Antarctica was 1,084 miles long and
lasted 59 days. She pulled two sleds with 85kg of supplies.
That is about the weight of two Year 1 children.
1. What was Felicity Aston the first person to do? 2. What did Felicity do when she first went to Antarctica? 3. Where did Felicity lead women from all around the world? 4. How many miles long was her journey across Antarctica? 5. How did Felicity carry all of her supplies with her?
See if you can tell your grown up all of the sounds on this Phase 3 sound mat and then see if you can label all of the pictures below.
