I’m staying with a family in Verona. There are two children in the family – Matteo, who’s the same age as me, and Giulia who’s 12. Italy is very different from England. The summer here is hotter, and it’s hot at night. I can’t sleep. The windows are open and the traffic in the street is very noisy. I feel tired all the time. The food is different too, but it’s OK. I’m eating a lot of pasta and fruit, which I like. There are also lots of activities. Today we went to the Roman amphitheatre. That was interesting. But tomorrow we are going to Gardaland. It’s an amusement park and I don’t really want to go. If we stay all day, I’ll be really bored. Today I tried speaking Italian. I wanted to buy a stamp for a postcard but nobody understood me. It was really embarrassing. In the family I usually speak English because Matteo’s English is better than my Italian. He’s confident and I’m not. Giulia doesn’t understand English, but when I tried to say something to her in Italian she just laughed. Yesterday evening Matteo went out for a pizza with his friends. He asked me if I wanted to go. I said no because I was really tired. So I stayed at home and had dinner with his parents and sister instead. Matteo’s parents are very nice, but I didn’t know what to say them. So life is hard. I’ve already been here for one week. Only two more weeks to go! If things don’t get better, I’ll go mad! How are things back in the UK? Write soon!
