Now that we’re back into our routines at school and work, our thoughts often drift back to those great Maine memories that keep us happy all winter long. We’ll never forget the incredible performances at Campfires and Talent Shows; awesome special events like Carnival, Quest, Group Sing, Sports Night and Fireworks; S-Day trips to Funtown, Boothbay and Old Port; flipping crepes in ChefCamp, rallying at Tennis, cruising Echo Lake on a Hobie, whizzing down the Zip Line…the list goes on and on! But most importantly, we’ll remember the amazing friendships we made over those remarkable seven weeks! We’re also looking ahead with great excitement to the summer of 2014. As soon as the last bus pulled out of camp, Rick, Josh and our maintenance crew started work on a comprehensive cabin refurbishment project. Every cabin in camp has been deep-cleaned and given a “facelift” with new roofs and floors. They look fan- tastic! Each cabin also received brand new mattresses and cubbies. Every bathroom in every cabin has been gutted and upgraded, and the Acadia & Apache Showerhouses were renovated. We know you’ll be more comfortable than ever in your summer digs! ChefCamp was more popular than ever last summer…so we decided to double the size of the program and facility! ChefCamp II opens its doors right next door to the original, with Chef Sarah once again at the helm. We know you’ll love it! Don’t worry…Studio Art has a great new home on “InterArts Row,” near Metalsmithing and Arts & Crafts. The Theatre also received a major upgrade with new windows, doors, ceiling, floor and roof. Bravo! We’re also thrilled about the new additions to Laurel’s Waterskiing fleet: two new Master- craft ProStar 197s for skiing & wakeboarding and two new Mastercraft X2s, which are tailor-made for wakesurfing – a rapidly growing sport where you surf the wake created by the boat without being connected to a rope. We can’t wait for you to try it! But what’s most exciting is the tremendous group of returning campers and staff who’ll join us again on the shores of Echo Lake for another unforgettable Maine summer. And of course, our fantastic group of Laurel newcomers featured in this and upcoming editions of MooseTracks. It’s the people who make Laurel so special. Enjoy the fall, have a wonderful holiday season, keep in touch and think camp! And as always, thanks for keeping the Laurel Spirit alive all winter long. Thinking of you,

Dear Camp Laurel Family:

The fall is such an enjoyable time of year as we look back on another amazing summer at Laurel. Now that we’re back into our routines at school and work, our thoughts often drift back to those great Maine memories that

keep us happy all winter long.

They look fan-tastic!

Bravo!

We’re also thrilled about the new additions to Laurel’s Waterskiing fleet: two new Master-craft ProStar 197s for skiing & wakeboarding and two new Mastercraft X2s, which are tailor-made for wakesurfing – a rapidly growing sport where you surf the wake created by the boat without being connected to a rope.

A huge thanks goes out to the Staff of 2013 who made this past summer so incredible. We’ve heard from so many of our stellar staff who are studying

and working hard, but thinking Laurel. Here’s just a glimpse:

Three-quarters of mighty APACHIA, Joie Picatti, Lauren “Poppy” Keane

and Kristen Maddox, have their hiking boots on for the trip of a lifetime to New Zealand and beyond. Don’t worry, they’ll be back stateside in time for June 2014! And what about the 4th member of Apachia and everyone’s favorite ACL, Travis Mann? He’s working in Colorado and planning his Laurel return. Sequoia and Baxter ACLs Kurt Whisler and Karrie Brawn are back in Northern Maine preparing for the winter ahead, while Baxter CL Mckenna Diggins is in Iowa studying, husking corn and dreaming

about taking in the Baxter sun. The Bago dream team has been in touch, too. Jon Miller is back in Michigan teaching high school, Matt “Cheese” Hill is teaching yoga in LA and Justin Tretten has made the move back to his home state of Colorado, but all are missing the days of Kan Jam around the fire circle. Bec ACL Hayley Zinn is back in her home state of Pennsylvania keeping her Bec Soccer skills sharp, while Melissa Asarch is back in NYC with “Goooood Moooorning Kennebec!” running through her mind.

Geoff Williams has moved to Laurel’s neighboring town, Hallowell, where he’s teaching preschool. Warren and Holly Williams are back in Newport,

Rhode Island teaching and coaching at St. Georges School alongside Devon Ducharme and Virginia Buckles. Heath Capello has hopped across the pond and is teaching in Milan, Italy, Tom Ferrero is back in Nova Scotia teaching at NSCAD University, and Jenny Fife is designing jewelry in Ontario. Daniel “DVP” Van Praagh, returned to work in his native New Zealand, while his mate Tom Davies is living and working in San Francisco. Both have plans to return for year #3 on Echo Lake. Tom Lang and Mike Trumbull are back in Maryland teaching, coaching and planning the 2014 GaGa Tournament. Stefan Borowski is back in Connecticut coaching at New Canaan Country School and looking forward to a return to the Laurel soccer pitch. Corey Goldman moved to Miami where he is working as a personal trainer in South Beach,

and Dre Murray is back home in NYC staying busy coaching hoops at his after-school program A&M Sports. Gustavo Andrade and Adriano Cipriano have returned to Sao Paulo and are busy teaching on the hard courts. Fernando Ristow is not far away, but instead of teaching this fall, he is playing on the ATP World Tour! InterArts and Adventure Director Zack Pettijohn is back home in New Mexico teaching art and coaching. Meanwhile, the Rockport crew is keeping the music alive. Peter

Arvo is playing shows all over Manhattan and Brooklyn, Timmi Gammon is teaching and playing in Boston, while Ian Link is prepping for an East Coast tour. All three are dreaming of another Rockport summer! Everyone’s favorite Campus Administrators are keeping busy, too: Matt “Manderson” Anderson is finishing his teaching degree at UMaine and Mackenzie Leshe is student teaching in Illinois. And we can’t forget the one-and-only Matt “Taco” Scheff who is working on his master’s degree at NYU.

Talent on the hoops court apparently goes hand in hand with teaching elementary school! LG

and Big Red (or Laura Grace and Hayley Pettit as they’re known in the “real world”) are back in Kansas and Montana, and are lesson-planning their return to their summer home in Kennebec. Bec counselor Izzy Rogner is back at school in West Virginia studying and running fast, while Colleen Grondin is working on her art education degree in Michigan. We sure hope to see them back in Laurel InterArts and Athletics! Lauren Saverino is back to her classroom in Illinois and teaching her students all her favorite Acadia songs. Fellow specialist Amanda Clark is in Colorado, while superstar Nightingale Jill McLoughlin is studying hard in Michigan.

Laurel’s worldwide travellers Sam Liska, Mark Rogers, Jack Sandquist and Ian McBrearty are backpacking around Europe for the year with a

summer return to New England on their itinerary! Pat Mullarkey is teaching English in China while exploring all Asia has to offer. Danny Buzzell is hitting the books again as a graduate assistant with the UCONN Athletic Department, Jugglin’ Josh Pry has returned to Grand Valley State to finish his PE degree, and Kyle Gramke returned to the mountains of Denver…all with thoughts of Apache 2014! Cody Christianson is back in Salt Lake City training for his upcoming innings on the pitching mound, and Alex Arnowitz is back in Miami studying at “The U” with a return to “Sweet Home Kennebago” on his mind.

There are so many more incredible counselors that we’ve heard from, so we’ll keep you up to date with the Staff Scene in upcoming editions of

MooseTracks. Thanks again to the 2013 staff for your energy, commitment and spirit. Keep in touch, and keep that Laurel spirit alive all winter long!

The Farmhouse

First Timers continuedAnd Cold Spring Harbor’s Ryan Koenigsberger joins the Laurel hit parade after hearing such great things from the Faulhaber family. Out of sight, Ryan! Get ready for the fun of Frosh Apache!

New England is not only home to Laurel, but also many superstar Laurel campers! Talia Varsano hails from Westport and is ready to

follow in the footsteps of sisters Logan and Rachel. We’re so glad your time has come, Talia! Great news! Greenwich sends Sebastian Gallardo who can’t wait to make Laurel his summer stomping grounds. Thanks to the Cohen family for letting Sebastian know Laurel is the hot spot come June. Welcome, Sebastian! The Bay State – Massachusetts, that is – con-tinues to send Laurel talent to Maine, this time in the form of Ava and Beau Bialow of Needham. Laurel’s new Mastercraft ski fleet is ready for you, Beau! Laurel’s Equestrian Center is all yours this summer, Ava! Welcome to these superstars in the making! And Aaron Spetter Goldstein

of Newton is primed to make his mark at Laurel after brother Benji and sister Rachel came home with so many great summer memories. Get ready for Frosh Apache, Aaron. It rocks! Alana Gordon of Potomac, Maryland knows Laurel is the place to be…brothers and Laurel alums Zack and Jake gave her the inside scoop. We’re over the moon that the Gordon family makes its Laurel return. Welcome to Readfield, Alana! Dy-no-mite! Julian Rosenbaum of Santa Monica, California heads east to join brother Jaden and cousin Andrew Reiter in Maine. We’re pumped that this West Coaster has decided to join the action in Junior Apache. There’s so much fun in store for you, Julian! And rounding out this edition of MooseTracks is Sofia Vitienes of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic who signed on the dotted line after getting the inside scoop from Annette Baittiner Morales. Welcome to Baxter, Sofia. We know you’ll have the time of your life!

That’s a wrap on this edition, but many more new faces will be featured in the next MooseTracks. We can’t wait to greet you

all in Maine! apache a.c.f.l.
