Reader reactionThe following comments were left on The Records Facebook page and through our website. As a resident I'm sort of used to the politicians and civic leaders not having a clue nor concern

about their constituents concerns on such matters, but I find it offensive that she'd make thisclaim not just for herself but for all Troy residents. I am not a fan of the structure nor method ofadopting this SAFE act as handled by Cuomo. ~Sean

Lynn Kopka just made a career ending mistake. ~Eduardo

Yep, the background check requirement conducted by the state police on skeet shooters andduck hunters on every single purchase of a box of shotgun ammunition is really going to detercrime in New York. Deer hunters, youre also included, as well as all gun clubs. By the way, mail order is a no, no, all purchases must be face to face, that is if anyone will still be sellingammunition in New York come 2014! ~Joe

Sorry Lynn but you aren't speaking for me in that letter and I am a resident of Troy. ~Spoony1

When did Lynn Kopka become the supreme leader of Troy? I did NOT vote for her or hercronies and I certainly did not give her my okay to speak for me. I whole heartedly stand againstthe SAFE act. This "act" is another ploy for re-election by the idiots who think that guns are theproblem, not the actual people. Her letter should be revoked and she should go back to runningher little park and newsletter. What a perfect example of abuse of power. I promise to campaign

for anyone who runs against her and her band of cronies, especially if she sends this letter.~StoveTop53

I tend to vote my conscience, in a bipartisan, thoughtful, and educated manner. Lynn Kopkadid not and will not ever get my vote and I urge everyone to consider steering your votes inanother direction. Any politician that supports the perversion of the Constitution is insane to saythe least. This is a reckless representation of our citizens and does absolutely nothing to advanceour stability as a city. It flies in the face of all voters that one unbalanced individual such as LynnKopka communicates with such reckless disregard for law abiding citizens. Vote her out andelect someone that speaks for us, not themselves. ~Opinionated

This is a joke right? Misprint? Rogue story? Just thinking out loud? No one has the right tospeak on my behalf unless I say its ok to do so. Sorry I voted for you. ~Nina

You certainly don't speak for me... how dare you! ~Patrick

Lynn Why? Has your elected post changed you so much? I did not think so. The council is alegislative component of city government not our supreme leaders. The governor acted in hasteto promote his own political interests, how can you send a letter encouraging this behavior? Thecity concerns should be addressed before politics. ~Debra

Thanks for writing the Gov Lynn. But sorry, many here who pay taxes don't feel the same. What's next, Rodney writing to Bloomberg in support of a ban on 32.oz soda's? Speak foryourself in the future Lynn. ~STboy

I'm guessing there's going to be a bit of backlash from this. I heard there is a City Councilmeeting tonight, if anyone has the info, please post it up, and those in the area, please show up tomake your voice heard. If you don't stand up now, you're letting this lady speak for you.~Gordon

She does not now nor will she again speak for me. ~DeborahOn behalf of the residents of the City of Troy, we write to express support for you and the state

Legislature for enacting the New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement (NYSAFE) Act, the letter to Cuomo reads. It is our collective belief that you and the Legislaturehave shown sound leadership in helping to enact the strongest measures to curb gun violence ofany state.

And whom delegated authority to you to speak on behalf of all Troy residents? I recommend aletter to the Governor amending and correcting your statement to reflect you speak forYOURSELF and not for the City of Troy residents. The letter should be published so we the

people know it was done. We do not want to have a letter writing campaign to him alerting himof your most audacious, pompous erroneous statements. A quote to you Ms Kopka credited toMr. Abraham Lincoln: Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove alldoubt. ~m2plaid

Who the heck does Lynn Kopka think she is? I did not vote for her and I will not support her orher idiotic ideas about MY freedoms. The gall of her to write an open letter to the Governorabout support for the SAFE act in the name of all of Troy citizens is assinine. Please do all of thelaw abiding citizens of Troy a huge favor and resign your post and go back to running your littlepark and newsletter. You have done nothing for the progress of Troy except to promotecomposting and spay/nueter of stray cats. What are you the next Bob Barker? You are nothingbut a little stick stirring up a giant pot of garbage for a couple of votes. What a complete andutter idiot you must be to think this will pass the smell test. It smells as bad as the compost youpromote. ~Matt

Who do you think you are, Lynn, that you can speak for me. I will be voting against you atevery opportunity.

The SAFE Act is ineffective, takes away my rights as a citizen, and empowers criminals. Even

if the Act was justified, WHY WOULD YOU CONDONE THE SNEAKY WAY IT WASIRRESPONSIBLY RUSHED THROUGH TO PASS! Unbelievable. ~MrsThinker

What's more, Cuomo enacted that legislation swiftly and outside of normal procedures just sothat he could claim to have something on the books before the President and/or Legislativebranch did anything, much as he's done with his push for the increased minimum wage. Cuomois all about gaining political gravitas so he can run for higher office, and while I do not know Ms.Kopka's intentions, it would seem outwardly to be more concerned with her personal beliefsand/or political desires than anything the city voted on. I cannot make the meeting ont is thisevening, but if you can, please go voice your opinions and let them know you don't wish to bespoken for without being asked your input. ~Sean

The voters have to remember to dump her come election day, another politician that is clueless, and doesn't want to stand up for our rights. ~fourstar1

She does NOT represent me, because she never received a vote from me! I have lived here inTroy for 50yrs and I'm sick and tired of Troy politics! Hope she gets voted out next time~Sean

Another socialist overstepping the authority granted to them by the people~ Its not about whatthe politicians want its about what the voters want! ~Doug

The views indicated in this letter are certainly not the views of this citizen of Troy!!!Councilwoman Kopka I would love to hear how you came to this consensus!~Uncle_Sam_of_Troy
