The fun activity demonstrates one of many dif!culties that a dyslexic child might experience. The activity is an example of a “naming speed” test, typically given to young children. Children who have dif!culties identifying the pictures are said to have slow naming speeds, and are at risk of having dyslexia. It is important to note that the puzzle is not designed to be a diagnostic tool. This puzzle is only one example of how dyslexia might affect a child.

What is Dyslexia?Dyslexia is a learning disorder that affects a person’s ability to translate images into meaningful language. A child with dyslexia typically has normal speech, but will have dif!culty with reading and writing as well as interpreting spoken language. It is believed that 1 in every 5 people suffer from some form of dyslexia. Children who suffer from dyslexia will struggle with problems at home and in school.
