A Reaction Paper toEffective Diagnosis in Organization Change Management*Ahmed Hassins article, Effective Diagnosis in Organization Change Management explained the significance and the process of organizational diagnosis to a successful organizational development activity to compete and survive in todays highly competitive and ever-changes business environment. Hassin further described the seven-step process in a major organizational development activity, including the different data gathering tools a skilled Organization Development (OD) practitioner can use singularly, or in combination with other tools, in the diagnosis process. He also provided the warning signals that an OD practitioner must be wary of so that the latter will not loss focus on the real objective of the engagement.In the article, Hassin said that the key to establishing an effective change and transformation in an organization lies in the early stages of assessment and diagnosis. Effective diagnosis provides the systematic understanding of the organization necessary for designing appropriate change intervention intended to resolve problems and improve organizational functioning. In the process, the internal and external environment factors of the organization should be fully understood and taken into consideration in the process.In the actual performance of organizational development activities, especially in the implementation of Quality Management System, applying the steps and tools shared by Hassin will definitely minimize the risk of failure. With his article, a blue print for implementing organization development activities can be easily prepared and implemented. This will be a great help to new and aspiring OP practitioners.I find the article informative. However, the author delved more on the what of an OD. He could have simplified the Organization Diagnosis process had he presented the how, and integrated them into a framework that takes into consideration all the necessary factors to an effective diagnosis of the organization. In this scenario, the author could have adopted the ISO 9001:2008 Standards framework, thereby creating an integrated approach to an effective diagnosis in Organization Change Management.*Hassin, Ahmed (2010).
