    Excellent uniformityThe brightness of individual LEDs isadjustable, ensuring a high degreeof uniformity between the pixels.The use of the Screen and UnitAlignment Controllers further maintains uniformity over the life of the screen.

    Pixel configurationAn inverted triangle configurationwas chosen for the alignment of the individual LEDelements becauseof the way the eyeperceives light. Asthe eye is naturallydrawn to red andgreen, these elements are placed side-by-side tofacilitate colour mixing. Placing thered and green elements at the topof the inverted triangle allows thelouvers that are incorporated in theunit to reduce ambient light strikingthese elements, improving colourcontrast.

    Pixel pitch and densityPixel pitch (the distance betweenadjacent pixels) and pixel density(the number of pixels per squaremeter) are essential in determiningpicture resolution. With a pixel pitchof just 15mm and a pixel density of4,444 pixels/m2, the LED unit candisplay full motion pictures, still pictures, computer graphics, andother information with vivid, natural-looking results.

    10-bit digital processingWhen converting the analogue inputsignal into a digital signal, the

    LED JumboTron adoptsa new partial 10-bit signalconversion. This reducesdigital noise that is particularly noticeable

    when reproducing dark colour gradations (0/256 to 5/256). Partial10-bit conversion improves on 8-bitconversion by separating each of the 256 colour gradations into foursmaller gradations, making colourreproduction more precise.

    Viewing angle and rangeWith a horizontal viewing angle of 120° (1/2 brightness), the LEDJumboTron is able to convey yourmessage to large audiences. Fromdistances as close as 7.6 meters,audiences will be impressed by thequality and clarity of the image.

    Colour compensationThe LED colour reproduction areadiffers from the NTSC/PAL reproduction area and, when leftuncorrected, LED displays producecolours that do not appear naturalto the eye. Therefore, the newJumboTron utilises a colour compensation function to reducethese differences, enabling morenatural colour reproduction.

    ICUThe Image Control Unit (ICU) is thesignal processor for the new LEDJumboTron system. With innovativeSony technology, including partial10-bit digital processing and colourcompensation, the ICU enhancesthe picture quality of the LED display.

    ABC sensor unitABC (Automatic Brightness Control)Sensors detect ambient lightingconditions. Screen brightness isthen automatically adjusted to theaverage brightness level detectedby the ABC Sensors, resulting inoptimum image reproduction.

  • One-touch installationThe system's units aredesigned with ease ofinstallation in mind.One-touch installationrefers to the unique spring-loadedpin design allowing installation without screws or bolts. The unitshave fixed guide pins on one sideand spring-loaded ejection pins on the other for quick insertion and removal from the flat-bar frame.

    Modular installationFor even easier, faster installationSony offers prefabricated modules,each containing twelve units. Since all the electrical and signalcables are attached to one module, connecting time is minimised significantly minimising assemblytime.

    Lightweight, thin designThe lightweight and thin design ofthe new JumboTron makes it idealfor installations where weight andspace are major concerns. Withunits approximately fifty percentlighter than CRT units (LED: 53 kg/m2 vs. CRT: 100 kg/m2,excluding any frame), this systemcan be installed in previously impossible locations.

  • Status LampEach unit has a status lamp on therear panel to indicate its current status. A green light indicates normalstatus, while an error is shown by a red light. When maintenance orservice is performed, the statuslamps indicate which units needattention.

    Service and maintenance

    Unit designThe JTS-L15 LED JumboTron usesthe same design concept as CRT JumboTron systems. The unit is the basic component of screenconstruction and also of repair andservice – faulty units can be quicklyand easily replaced.

    ICU ControllerThe ICU (Image Control Unit)Controller has advanced, built-incommunication capabilities for bothpresent and future needs. Simplyconnecting the controller to amodem* will enable wireless communication with the ScreenAlignment Controller. In the future, a modem connection will allowremote access to the controller toobtain relevant information such ascumulative time of system operationand any error messages.

    Unit Alignment ControllerThe Unit Alignment Controller performs precise adjustments in the luminance of JumboTron units.Used in combination with the UnitAlignment Sensor, which measuresthe brightness level of individualcells, the Unit Alignment Controlleris able to compare this level withthe reference data of a properlyfunctioning cell and automaticallyadjust other cells to the samebrightness. As a result, it is possibleto maintain a superior uniformity ofbrightness and colour throughoutthe life of the screen.

    Screen Alignment ControllerThe Screen Alignment Controllerhas a PC Card (PCMCIA) slot to allow a PC Card modem and cellular phone to be connected.** This configurationallows wireless communicationwith the ICU Controller duringscreen alignment. Wired communication is also possible with an optional RS-422 cable.
