Sioux City Diocese COVID Task Force Updated Protocols and Recommendations

The Diocesan COVID Task Force met with the Bishop earlier this week and reviewed current data as it pertains to the spread and impact of COVID-19 and the current dominant Delta Variant. Following the meeting the Bishop maintained or amended the following protocols and has issued the following recommendations.

No Sign of Peace during Mass Remains

Communion – Single Form of Communion under the Species of Bread Only Remains

The use of hand sanitizer during the distribution of Communion after the Eucharist is received on the tongue is Rescinded and is no longer mandated.

Hand sanitizer should be applied by priests, deacons and the laity prior to the general distribution of the Eucharist and following the completion of general distribution to the congregation.

Pastors should continue to strongly urge their faithful to receive the Body of Christ in their hand (understanding it is their right to receive via their mouth).

It is Strongly Urged for ALL people to wear a mask for all indoor parish liturgies and events for ages 2 and above.

It is Strongly Urged for ALL clergy and laity to wear a mask while distributing Communion.

Scripture Studies: The Benedictine Peace Center in Yankton, SD is offering two online Scripture Studies, using the Little Rock Scripture Study created by the Catholic Diocese of Little Rock in Arkansas. Both groups begin Sept. 29, with registration deadline of Sept. 22. S. Doris Ober-embt will facilitate The Book of Exodus, part 1, online, Wednesdays, 9:30-11:00 a.m. for 5 weeks. The Gospel of Luke, part 1 will meet Wednesdays, 7:00-8:30 p.m. for 6 weeks, also online. Kick off night for religious education students in grades 6-12 will be Wednesday, September 15. We will have pizza at 6 PM at church followed by a trip to the Heart-land Corn Maze. Drivers are needed so please contact Tracy Kramer if you are able to help.

A mandatory confirmation retreat for 8th grade students will take place on Sunday, September 26. Students should arrive at church at 8:30 am and plan to have 2 hours of retreat time prior to Mass and then interview with Father following Mass.

If you have a student in college this semester, please message Tracy Kramer with their name and address. We would like to send them care packages prior to their first semester finals this year.
