Will all of this happen on March 31, 2013?
Day 1
• Library of Congress will cease production of AACR2 records
• NACO PCC libraries must create RDA Authority Records
• OCLC will not require libraries to use RDA
February 1, 2013
Day 1 for you
• Move when you are ready
• Things to consider
– Cooperative cataloguing
– Source of bibliographic records

So…..where do we begin?
Implementation
• Is my ILS ready to accept RDA records?
• How will my Discovery Layer search and display RDA records?
• Do I need to convert all of my Bibliographic Records to RDA?
• Are Hybrid RDA records acceptable?
February 1, 2013
Is my ILS ready to accept RDA records?
• RDA records are still MARC records
• RDA uses new MARC fields
http://www.loc.gov/marc/RDAinMARC-10-12.html
• Speak to your IT Department
• Ask your ILS/Discovery Layer Vendor
February 1, 2013

Do I need to convert all of my Bibliographic Records to RDA?
The U.S. national libraries testing of RDA determined that RDA records could co-exist successfully with non-RDA records.
• Identify which records are created using RDA – Leader : Descriptive cataloging form
• ‘i’ = ISBD punctuation [RDA]
– 040 $e RDA • Only for records fully created with and according to RDA

Hybrid Catalogue, Hybrid Records
Q. Do I need to convert all of the old records from 260 to 264? A. No. 260 and 264 can co-exist in your catalogue. Ask
your ILS or Discovery layer vendor how they will index and display these fields to the user.
Q. Can I manually convert old records to RDA? A. If you want.
Q. Can I change some fields in old records, creating hybrid records.
A. Yes, but consider PCC and OCLC guidelines.
