Ibn Battuta was a famous Arab explorer. He was born in 1304 in Tangier, in Morocco.

He made his first journey when he was 21 years old, when he set off on a pilgrimage to

Makkah. At first, he hated travelling because he felt lonely. However, during the next 28

years he travelled over 120,000 kilometers.

Ibn Battuta stayed in Makkah for three years. After Makkah, he travelled to India,

Read the following passage and answer the questions below.

When I was in the countryside last summer, I went fishing with my friend Ali, early in

the morning. We were sitting quietly by the side of the river when my friend had an

unpleasant surprise. While he was standing on a low bridge, he had the misfortune to knock

his tin of bait into the river. Leaning over the side of the bridge, he tried to hook the tin and

pull it out of the river. As he did so, his car keys fell out of his pocket and disappeared in the

water. My friend leant over the bridge to see where his keys had gone. As he did so, the

bridge broke down and he himself fell into the river.

I couldn't help him because I didn't know swimming at that time, but I gave him a rope to

scramble, he crawled out of the river and went back to his car. There, he discovered that he

locked the doors and could not get in.

We tried to search for the keys and also tried to open the car's windows, but we failed to do

that , at last my friend called his brother to come and get us back to the home , we're very

sad.
