August was a month to remember for the RCCC Motorsports Management Technology program, as a current student and two alumni found Victory Lane to their liking. Tyler Green of China Grove captured the INEX Legends Pro championship in the 10-week Summer Shootout Series at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Green, son of NASCAR Nationwide competitor Mark Green and a current RCCC Motorsports student, finished the series with two wins and no finishes worse than 12th en route to capturing the title by a scant 14 points. In addition to his studies at RCCC, Green also serves as spotter for NASCAR Camping World Truck Series competitor Aric Armirola, currently

august a winning Month for Rccc Motorsportssecond in points. RCCC alumnus Eric Coomes of Concord won two regional USAC Ford Focus Midget Series events during the recent Midweek Mayhem at Concord Speedway. Coomes, a driving instructor for the Richard Petty Driving Experience, took the checkered flag in 40-laps features races on August 11 and 25 and Concord’s ¼-mile facility. On Aug. 29, it was RCCC Motorsports alum wearing the hat of car owner, not driver, which celebrated victory, this time in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Robby Benton saw his driver Boris Said take the victory for his Concord-based RAB Racing in a photo finish at the NAPA Auto Parts 200 presented by Dodge at the famed Circuit

Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada. Benton’s team had previously won races in the ARCA ReMax Series, but this was their first NASCAR checkered flag. The margin of victory was a scant .012 seconds for Said and his Benton-led team. “I try to follow the progress of our students and alumni in the industry,” said RCCC Motorsports program head Richmond Gage, “But August was one of great pride for the program, and for the college as well. Victory in motorsports always tastes sweet, and can only be achieved with hard work and dedication. Tyler, Eric, and Robby are three that personify that mindset, and we at RCCC celebrate their success.”
