� Contratto firmato l’8 aprile scorso a Johannesburg con consorzio di 11

operatori.

� 14.000km di cavo collegherà il Sud-Africa al Portogallo (e da qui alla Gran

Bretagna), via Namibia, Angola, Repubblica Democratica del Congo, Camerun,

Nigeria, Togo, Ghana, Costa d’Avorio, Capo Verde, Canarie.

� Riduzione del digital divide del continente africano, le cui comunicazioni sono

prevalentemente affidate al satellite.

� Minima capacità di 3,84Terabit/s => nuovi servizi multimediali per e-education

e health care.

� Servizio commerciale nel 2011.

� Trasmissione WDM di 128 canali a 10Gb/s su 11.390km di fibra “dispersion-

managed” senza rigererazione.

“Australian Government to Build National FTTP Wholesale Network”

� Il Governo australiano ha respinto le 5 offerte per la NGN e annunciato un

proprio piano per costruire la rete nazionale FTTP da 31 miliardi di USD.

� Una nuova entità collegherà in fibra il 90% delle case e delle imprese in 8 anni.

Partecipazione minoritaria di privati. Il governo venderà la sua partecipazione

dopo 5 anni.

� Servizi da 100Mb/s o più. I siti non raggiunti dalla fibra avranno connessioni

wireless da 12Mb/s.

� 25.000 posti di lavoro con picchi di 37.000 durante la fase di installazione.

telecommunications in two decades because it delivers separation between the

infrastructure provider and retail service providers. The aim is for better and

fairer infrastructure access for service providers, greater retail competition,

and better services for families and businesses.

Photonic Research in Italy (PHORIT)

� Mercato mondiale della Fotonica (228 Miliardi di € nel 2005) superiore a quello

della microelettronica (200 Miliardi di €) con un tasso medio di crescita

superiore nel periodo 2005-2015 (7.5% contro 6.5%).

� La Fotonica riconosciuta, anche al livello politico, come un settore strategico in

alcuni paesi, es: USA, Germania, Regno Unito, ⇒ specifici programmi di

finanziamento per la Fotonica

� In Italia eccellenze a livello mondiale in diverse applicazioni della Fotonica, fra

cui quella delle comunicazioni ottiche.

� Sono ben noti, e confermati dai risultati ottenuti da paesi europei ed extra-

europei, gli effetti benefici di una NGN nazionale sul sistema paese.

La combinazione della NGN e della Fotonica ad essa applicata abiliterà un effetto sinergico e moltiplicatore

dei benefici sul sistema paese
