Large-scale medical, dental and diagnostic mission organized by RC Holy
Spirit and partners serves nearly 2,000 poor patients
Another partnership project dubbed Gamot Para sa
Kapwa medical/dental/diagnostic mission was
successfully held last February 11, 2012 at the
Don Antonio Heights covered court and the senior
citizens’ center for the benefit of underprivileged
members of Barangay Holy Spirit. Jointly with the
Don Antonio Homeowners Association (DAHHA), St
Benedict Parish Pastoral Council (SBPPC), Greater
Don Antonio Heights Senior Citizens Association
(GDAHSCAI), and with SM Foundation as major
sponsor, RC Holy Spirit coordinated and supervised
the mission.
PP Dr Roger Belleza, chair of RCHS’s Health & Well-
ness Committee, led a team of 19 doctors that
gave free medical consultations to 1,249 patients.
Joining him were members of his family. Also on
hand to share their time and expertise were SP Dr
Jess Lim of RC Pag-asa, SP Dr Juvido Agatep of RC
Metro Sta Mesa, and Rtn Dr Leandro Sacro of RC
Valenzuela RID 3800. Meanwhile, TRF Chair Dr Eui
Bong Jung administered acupuncture services to10 patients, most of whom were very happy to feel
relieved from body pains they have had for 3-4
months after only 10-15 minutes of treatment.
276 dental patients were attended to by a team of
dedicated dentists led by Rtns Dr Jong Myeong Kim
and Dr Marlene Martinez who stayed until the last
patient was served at around 5:30pm (the mission
was to have ended at 3:00pm). President Terry
Amado of RC Marikina North, RID 3800, came to
lend a hand with daughter-dentist Dr Kay and a
dentist friend. Dr Jong Myeong Kim brought a
his family as usual and 19 youth members of
dents for Christ who not only acted as dental a
but also provided entertainment to the kids
their balloon-making skills. Dr Myeong also se
an audio-visual system to entertain patients
movies while waiting for their turn.
Members of the Interact Club of Holy Spirit Nati
High School and Rotaract Club of Holy Spirit le
President Harold Kim Maggay and PE Kevin L
gan, respectively, were a great help with assis
the patients in the registration, priority and wa
areas. Also busily ensuring that the mission
ceeded well were SP Ped Condeno, IPP Dodgie
bel, Sec JR Delgra, Chair Ric Salvador, Rtn A
Castro and Rtn Willy Fabroa. PE Marcia Salv
was overall mission coordinator.
Volunteers from SMFI, DAHHA, GDAHSCAI, SB
and RCHS all worked together to make the mis
a successful partnership project. SMFI prov
free medicines, the x-ray mobile clinic, ECG chine, urinalysis and FBS services, as well as p
medical staff. DAHHA provided the venue, sec
and physical set-up. SBPPC and DAHHA gave d
ing water for the 130 mission volunteers. R
ensured the availability of teams of volunteer
tors and dentists, including a significant num
from Rotary clubs. The club also provided f
(breakfast, morning & afternoon snacks, and lu
for the volunteers. Truly an exemplar of collab
tive effort!

Value Added by the Mission
The value of immediate benefits derivedby the patients could be around
P800,000 to P900,000, estimated
based on ―market value‖ the free profes-
sional services, diagnostic services, and
medicines dispensed during the mission.
To assess the longer term socio-
economic impact of the mission due to
ailments cured and sickness prevented,
a follow-on research study needs to be
undertaken.

Rotarians in action during the mission!
February is World Understanding Month in Rotary
Last February 1, 2012 was no ordinary
meeting. It was a great learning experience
or RC Holy Spirit as CP Gary Ting, SP Jess
Lim, and PE Renzie Dizon of RC Pag-asa QC
shared their experiences drawn from their
club’s continuing development program for
an Aeta resettlement group in Barangay Ka-
nawan, Morong, Bataan. PE Renzie proudlyexplained the successful kalabasa-growing
ivelihood project introduced last year which
participating farmers have found profitable
and worth their efforts. The three gentlemen
also related several past livelihood projects
hat had not been as successful in the Kana-
wan environment: tricycles project, goat-
aising, and poultry.
To transform the re-settled community of
erstwhile nomadic hunter-families into a self-
reliant, self-sustaining community, RC Pag-
asa for the last 5 years has been helping by
enhancing healthcare through regular medi-
cal missions and anti-TB campaigns; uplift-
ing literacy such as by providing school sup-
plies, books & library facilities; daily feeding
for school children for body nourishment and to reduce drop-outs; food and entertainment
for the entire community during special oc-
casions; and livelihood programs.
At the end of the meeting, about 200 hard-
bound books and magazines for high school
and elementary school students were turned
over by RCHS Silver President Ped to RCP
Silver President Jess for the benefit of their
adopted schools.

The Object of RotaryFirst formulated in 1910, the Object of Rotary is to encourage and
foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in par-
ticular, to encourage and foster:
FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for
service;
SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and
the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity
to serve society;
THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotar-
ian's personal, business, and community life;
FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding,
goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business
and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
5 Avenues of ServiceBased on the Object of Rotary, the Five Avenues of Service are Rotary’sphilosophical cornerstone and the foundation on which club activity isbased:
Club Service focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring the
effective functioning of the club.
Vocational Service encourages Rotarians to serve others through their
vocations and to practice high ethical standards.
Community Service covers the projects and activities the club under-
takes to improve life in its community.
International Service encompasses actions taken to expand Rotary’s
humanitarian reach around the globe and to promote world under-
standing & peace.
New Generations Service recognizes the positive change imple-
mented by youth and young adults through leadership development
activities, service projects, and exchange programs.
The Four-Way TestOf the things we think, say or do
Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER
FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned
ROTARIAN’S PLEDGE
I am a Rotarian
I will always uphold the TRUTH.
I am a Rotarian
I will always strive to be FAIR
in all of my dealings with my fellowmen.
I am a Rotarian
I will always endeavor to build
GOODWILL and UNDERSTANDING
in my community,
among my countrymen
and people of all nations.
I am a Rotarian
I will always seek to promote
the greatest good
for the greatest number of people
in the spirit of ROTARY SERVICE.
I am a Rotarian
I will always uphold
the Rotary International Motto,
SERVICE ABOVE SELF.
Principles that Guide Rotary
As a Rotarian, I will
1. Exemplify the core value of integrity in all behaviors and activities
2. Use my vocational experience and talents to serve in Rotary

ample to others
4. Be fair in all dealings with others and treat them with the respect due to them as fellow human beings

6. Offer my vocational talents: to provide opportunities for young people, to work for the relief of the special needs of others, and to
improve the quality of life in my community
7. Honor the trust that Rotary and fellow Rotarians provide and not do anything that will bring disfavor or reflect adversely on Rotary
fellow Rotarians
