Welcome to the termly newsletter from Ramillies Hall SchoolWhat a fantastic start to the year!A very warm welcome to all new pupils and teachers who joined us in September. We have had a very busy term, not only have the pupils been working hard in lessons, but they have been involved in a number of events and activities.

Congratulations to last year’s GCSE students. They all did extremely well in their examinations and are now enjoying their college courses.

As we approach the end of this term we are all looking forward to

the Carol Service and Christmas Fayre on Thursday. We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas.

Harvest Festival PerformanceThe Junior School & the Choir put on a fabulous show for the Harvest Festival!

It featured the play, Mother Hen, in which Katalina took the lead role and really made it her own - even improvising on the afternoon of the performance. There were also songs and dance performed by other members of the Junior School.

The Choir sung some amazing pieces, including a solo performance by Poppy Akers of Adele’s “Someone Like You”. Many thanks to all the teachers and staff, especially Miss Wycherley who put so much work in to make the performances what they are.

Biology - cell design competition winnersYear 7 & 8 were challenged by Mrs Priestley to design either a plant cell or human cell. Over the years we have had many creative entries, that have included using foam, shower gel and cardboard. This year was no exception and we were

amazed by the high calibre of entries.

Miss Patterson had the tough job of deciding a winner - one in each year. After much deliberation she eventually chose Ben Hughes (left) in Year 7 and Natasha Everson-Williams (right) in Year 8, as the winners.

Olympic Treat!

In October we were delighted to welcome Niall Brookes to join us

in celebrating British Food Fortnight. Pupils, supported by Chef Stepehen Jarvis from Pinewood Hotel, cooked up an athletic-inspired meal for Niall using tasty homegrown vegetables from the school’s gardens.

Mrs Da Silva said “Niall gave our students an insight into the life of an elite athlete and why it’s important it is to eat healthily. This, together with the hands-on experience Stephen Jarvis demonstrated how you can produce healthy food deserving of a gold medal.”

Night Away

Library Team

“It’s been amazing!”Following on from the Auction of Promises held earlier this year. Nicholas Cropper successfully won a ‘Night Away with the Library team’. So it was time to honour our commitment.

On Friday 18th November, we took 6 students in the school minibus to Abney Scout & Guide

centre for an overnight stay that included games, stories, fire and food.

A fantastic time was had by all, students & teachers alike.

Thank you Nicholas for a great night away!

Other promises that have been honoured this term include:

A highlight of some of the events...Unbelievable Tekkers On 30th September the whole school made their way down to the school field for a very sunny afternoon of football skills.

This sponsored event involved 5 skills: shooting, passing, dribbling, heading and control. At each skill the pupils scored a mark out of 10. Students were then sponsored per point or for completing each base.

The event successfully raised over £1200 towards the School Sports Hall fund.Many thanks to all parents, family & friends who contributed through sponsorship for this event.

Shoe & Smartie tube successTwo other successful fundraising activities for the Library team included collecting in all sorts of old footwear and shoes which we have sent off for recycling.

We’ve also gave out Smartie tubes and challenged the children to two missions.

Mission 1: To eat the Smarties.Mission 2: To fill the Smartie tubes

with loose change, and return it to school.

Through both these fundraising activities we have successfully raised over £300 towards the new library.

Ramillies Quiz Night

Over 60 parents, students, family and teachers turned out for the Ramillies Hall School Question of Sport Quiz. Organised by Mr Mather this was a roaring success. With quiz rounds ranging from music & film to football club locations. The quiz was eventually won by the “Frank Worthington Appreciation Society” - congratulations!

Christmas extravaganza!The fundraising continues into the Christmas celebrations, with a visit from Santa for the Nursery and Junior School. Also taking place in the final week is the Christmas Fayre, featuring a cake sale, tombola, lucky lolly dip, calendar sales and more...

Fundraising Both the Library fundraising and the Sports Hall fundraising teams have been hard at work this term.

We have held a number of very successful events & activities over the last 12 weeks.

Will it be French Olympic competition success?

Two of our pupils, Isabella Milne (year 11) & Poppy Akers (year 10) have entered a French language competition for the Olympics, “Together in the Language of Sport”. The European Commission’s London Office is a partner in the Arsenal Double Club project. Isabella and Poppy have composed part of a song; a verse in French and a chorus in English which they have submitted. If successful their lyrics will be incorporated into the Double Club Olympic song and they will have the opportunity to have a professional recording session and also be part of the official music video.

Trip to Alton Towers

Years 8, 9 & 10 enjoyed an exciting day at Alton Towers just before half term. This was their reward for fantastic work over the last year. A fantastic day was had by all, despite a bit of wet weather!
