PALLIMANGAL—INTEGRATED RURAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECT
Swami Vivekananda, disciple of Sri Ramakrishna travelled through theIndian countryside mostly on foot and observed tremendous poverty amongthe people. He would always say ‘Food first and then religion’. ReveredSwami Vireswaranandaji Maharaj, the tenth President of RamakrishnaMath and Ramakrishna Mission, inspired by the vision of SwamiVivekananda, took an initiative to rebuild India through a new IntegratedRural Development Project called ‘Pallimangal’. Under the supervision ofthe Headquarters at Belur Math, Kamarpukur branch of Pallimangal, hasbeen rendering valuable service in villages since its inception in 1980. Themain target is uplift of the poor and downtrodden with special attentionto the women folk irrespective of caste, creed and religion by integratinghealth, education, economic, social and cultural development programmesunder Pallimangal. Over the years, the Pallimangal branch of Kamarpukurhas spread its activities into the remote villages of Hooghly, Bankura,Murshidabad and Paschim Midnapore also, through various awarenessworkshops and training programmes on handicrafts and handloom products. It is also helping the trainees to set up Cottage Industries on their own byforming Self Help Groups. In addition to the public support and help, the Pallimangal Project is ableto sustain its activities due to the financial support and guidance receivedby the various departments of Central Government and State Governmentnamely, National Jute Board, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India, NIRJAFT,Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Ministry of Food ProcessingIndustries and Horticulture, Govt. of West Bengal, and MSME, Govt. ofIndia. A brief description of the programmes implemented during the yearis mentioned below:
SOIL TESTING LABORATORY: Considering the needs and priorities of thearea, this was established at Kamarpukur in the year 1983. The objectivewas to encourage the farmers for scientific way of agriculture with a balanceduse of plant nutrients for higher production, economy in input cost, maintenance of soil health, reduction in environmental pollution, etc. Thearea is one of the most intensely cultivated part of West Bengal. Thelaboratory caters to the need of the farmers of Hooghly, Bankura, Burdwan,Medinipur West, Purulia and Howrah. The following figures depict theperformance of this laboratory during the year 2011-2012:

OUR THANKS AND APPEAL FOR IMMEDIATE NEED
We are very much grateful to all those contributors, friends and admirers whohave helped us in various ways in carrying out the noble activities taken upby us with the motto “for one’s own salvation and the welfare of all”.
Holy Kamarpukur, Jayrambati and Belur Math, together form the GoldenTriangle of pilgrim centres. Every devotee or admirer of Sri Ramakrishna aspiresto visit these three sacred places at least once in a lifetime to offer homage tothe Holy Trio. Day-by-day the number of pilgrims visiting these holy spots issteadily increasing. Apart from the cooked prasad (consecrated food), we offerGuest House facility also to the pilgrims. The cottage-type Guest Rooms oppositeto the Sri Ramakrishna Temple at Kamarpukur (adjacent to Haldharpukur)were constructed many years back and need to be renovated immediately.Needless to say, this renovation work needs sufficient funds. So, we requestall the devotees and admirers of Sri Ramakrishna to come forward and generouslycontribute their mite to this noble cause. The Cheque or Draft may kindly bedrawn in favour of: “Ramakrishna Math, Kamarpukur” and sent to the aboveaddress clearly mentioning the purpose of donation. Please note that oursbeing a charitable institution, all donations are exempt from Income Tax underSection 80G of the Income Tax Act-1961.
