Variations from the cables listed include: a) Tinned copper conductors b) Intermediate number of pairs/cores c) Other conductor sizes including 7/0.3mm (0.5mm2), 7/0.44mm (1.0mm2), and 7/0.67mm (2.5mm2) d) Low smoke and Fume (L.S.F.) and Low Smoke Zero Halogen versions of BS 5308 e) Non standard colour coding

Multipair Instrumentation CablesBS 5308 Part 1 - Polyethylene Insulated
CONSTRUCTION • Plain annealed copper conductors
• Polyethylene insulation to BS 6234 Type T03 or XLPE (Cross linked Polyethylene) Pair Identification: a) Collectively screened cables - colour coded to chart 1 b) Individually screened pairs - one blue core and one black core in each pair - Pairs identified by numbered tapes c) Pairs identitfied by coloured insulation as per chart 1 - Pair screens - aluminium/p.e.t.p. laminated tape applied with the metallic side down in electrical contact with a 0.5mm² tinned copper drain wire
• Binder tape - polyester tape applied with a minimum 50% overlap
• Collective screen - aluminium/polyester laminated tape applied with the metallic side down in electrical contact with a 0.5mm² tinned copper drain wire over the polyester binder tape.
• Outer protection Type 1 Extruded flame retardant PVC sheath Type 2 Extruded polyethylene bedding Galvanised steel wire armour Extruded flame retardant PVC sheath
