GENERAL INFORMATION
Welcome to the 1st National Conference on “Professional Social Work for Youth
Development” being organized by the Department of Social Work at Rajiv Gandhi
National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD), Sriperumbudur ,Tamil Nadu which
is located 32km away from Chennai Airport, 98km away from Tirupathi Airport, 33km
away from CMBT Bus station located in Koyambedu, Chennai and 39km away from
Chennai Central and Egmore Railway Stations.
Participants who inform their travel in advance will be guided by our volunteers for their
comfortable travel to Sriperumbudur. The Conference participants will be accommodated
in and around the Institute’s premises. Details will be available at the reception on arrival.
This 1st National Conference is a unique one on several counts. It is going to be the first
ever event organized by RGNIYD in bringing 180 participants from various parts of the
country (15 states) and facilitating the networking of professional social workers-
educators, researchers and practitioners- from across the nation. They will be interfacing
together, sharing experiences and learning from one another. Besides the academic
presentations by around 50 professionals in plenary, panel and parallel sessions, the
Conference will provide the nicest opportunity to students from different Universities,
Colleges and Schools of social work to interact and exchange pleasantries. The
Conference will also provide excellent opportunities for sightseeing of 1000 years old
temple of Sri Adhikeshava Perumal and Sri Ramanuja, Rajiv Gandhi Memorial, MRF
Sport Racing Track, Queens Land Theme Park, Marina Beach, and Chennai Museum.
The organizing committee will guide the participants to visit these places.
EXHIBITION STALLS:
Students of RGNIYD are putting up exhibition stalls by mobilizing various development
organizations. They will be exhibiting the work and products of those organizations at the
Conference venue.
ACCOMMODATION:
Delegates will be accommodated at RGNIYD Guest house in the campus and Brahma
Kumaris Institute. On arrival the delegates will be comfortably placed into the designated
places of accommodation on sharing basis.

Student delegates are hereby informed that they will be accommodated in the Hostels on
the Campus in a dormitory mode.
TRANSPORT:
Local Transport will be available at Chennai Railway Station, Egmore railway station.
The participants are requested to reach from their respective destination to RGNIYD
venue. Local travel expenses will be reimbursed along with your travelling allowances (if
your travel grant is approved). Pre-paid taxis are available at Chennai Airport; the
delegates are requested to reach the venue. Based on the eligibility prescribed in the
information brochure T.A will be reimbursed.
MEALS:
Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner will be served at RGNIYD premises. Morning evening tea
will be served at the corridor of the Conference hall. Bed tea will be provided at the
places of accommodation.
CANTEEN:
Snacks and cool drinks are available in the canteen of RGNIYD on payment.
NO SMOKING/NO LIQUOR:
The Conference venues are part of a non-smoking and no-liquor zone and delegates are
not allowed to smoke or bring liquor.
COMMUNICATION:
Registered delegates can avail the internet facilities available on the campus from
morning 9 am to evening 6 pm. The RGNIYD campus is Wi Fi enabled, user name and

MORNING STROLLS:
Delegates fond of morning strolls are advised to experience the morning cool breeze
carrying the smell of the wet soils of the deltaic plains on the tracts of RGNIYD.
CULTURAL EVENING:
On 10th evening, the host will arrange dances of the India to be performed by local teams
in honor of the visiting delegates. On 10th Evening there will also be a Cultural Show by
the Students of Social Work coming from different states.
ENTERTAINMENT BREAKS:
Between academic sessions, there will be entertainment breaks of 3 to 5 minutes during
which opportunities will be made available to those interested to sing a song/group
song/rounders/crack a jock or a riddle. Those interested may contact the reception or one
of the organizers.
CLIMATE:
The temperature in Sriperumbudur in November will be around 32-33 Degrees Celsius
during Day time and 22-23 Degrees Celsius during Night. Participants may carry clothes
accordingly to keep themselves comfortable.
FIRST AID:
Medicine for common ailments will be available at the reception. Please contact
conference reception for any emergencies and special assistance.
